Nathan Drake Has an Array of New Ways to Fight and Move in ‘Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End’

The seven-minute demo trailer of the open-world action adventure third-person video game “Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End” that was shown during the recently-concluded Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) 2015 had impressed both gamers and critics with its level of intensity.

But what caught the attention of the astute fans and gamers of the fourth installment of the “Uncharted” video game series is the array of new ways that protagonist Nathan Drake fights, moves, and interacts with the environment around him. He is also using a new kit to do all kinds of stuff as he goes on exploring the environment.

The demo trailer shown during the E3 2015 actually wrapped up showing Drake swinging from his grappling hook and rope into the side of the bridge. He did not let go of the rope which dragged him into one of the most exciting set-pieces in the “Uncharted” series so far, details the PlayStation Blog.

The protagonist may have aged over time since “Uncharted” was first released years back but it seems that Drake is now a little wiser too and has found new ways of getting into and out of trouble in the open-world game.

Naugthy Dog creative director Neil Druckmann says that they have intentionally evolved Drake’s repertoire of what he can do and also how those moves flow from one to another. He added that there’s all these mechanics that interact with one another so they’re trying to give the player a choice of strategy of how he approaches each set up.

The big brother

The demo trailer also offered a glimpse of Nathan’s big brother Sam who also got into all sorts of trouble as well.

Game director Bruce Stanley explained that all the characters that they have created in the game have different facets of Drake’s personality. He explained that since Sam is part of Nathan’s past, he actually re-ignites the fire in Drake’s belly and gets him back into the adventure.

Druckmann added that there’s actually more to Sam and he has a little mystery around him but as big brother to Nathan, the two would surely get into a lot of troubles in “Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End” as brothers normally do.

Drake’s hunt for fortune

The demo trailer also hinted that Nathan Drake will be looking for fortune and glory in the fourth and final installment of the video game series that shall exclusively hit the PlayStation 4 next year, although Naughty Dog has yet to come up with a specific release date for the game.

When Drake and Sully got into the bustling market square, the demo trailer unfurled with a shot of an inscription above a door that says, ‘I am a man of fortune, I must seek my fortune,’ which some fans and gamers of the video game series is the new motto of Drake.

Neil Druckmann clarified that the inscription is actually a quote from Henry Avery, the King of Pirates, the most popular and successful pirate who was never caught. The theme is appropriate for Drake but not because he is actually looking for fortune but more on exploring on who he really is and the hole he is trying to fill.
