Narcos Season 3 Will Deal With The Cali Cartel, Will Holbrook Return For Season 3? Season 4 Already Commissioned

Narcos was an unprecedented success on Netflix. While the second season of Narcos recently released on Netflix, an official announcement confirmed that the work on Narcos Season 3 has already started. With Narcos Season 3 on its way, Netflix has commissioned Narcos Season 4 as well.

Independent reported that producers José Padilha and Eric Newman would be returning for Narcos Season 3.

Padilha and Newman had already expressed their desire to work with Season 3. They had said that the work on Narcos would stop when the drug trade comes to an end. They also said that Narcos would continue as long as the viewers are interested in watching it.

The viewers were aware that Narcos will say goodbye to Pablo Escobar (Wagner Moura), but they never realized that it would happen so soon. While the viewers are still trying to come to terms with Pablo Escobar’s death, the work on Narcos Season 3 is underway.

Reports suggest that Narcos Season 3 will start with DEA Agent Javier Pena (Pedro Pascal) addressing the large crowd. There isn’t any confirmation on what Pena is talking about. He is either reporting Escobar’s death or briefing about the new enemies, the Cali Cartel.

Netflix released an official image of Javier Pena standing on a podium during what looks like a press conference. The photo comes with a caption that states that while Pablo Escobar might be dead, the war isn’t over yet.

Boyd Holbrook, who plays Steve Murphy recently signed up for Shane Black’s film, The Predator. This news created a buzz that Holbrook might not be back for Season 3 of Narcos.

According to Screen Crush, Boyd Holbrook might not continue for the entire Season 3.  Real-life agent Murphy and Pena gave up their involvement with the Columbian drug trade soon after Escobar’s death.

While Murphy headed back to the United States in June 1994, Pena left Columbia in October, of the same year.

In real life, Pena doesn’t come back to take up the Cali Cartel case. However, given the popularity of the character in Narcos, Season 3 might decide to differ from reality.

Season 3 of Narcos will throw light on the Cali Cartel. Real Javier Pena spoke to The Hollywood Reported about the difference between the Medellin and the Cali Cartel. He said that the Medellin Cartel were similar to the Wild Wild West, while the Cali Cartel were professional businessmen.

The Cali Cartel was professional and different from the other drug cartel that existed during the time. They were accountants and professional money-launderers and had moved more drugs into the United States than the others in the business.

The drama surrounding the Columbian drug trade continues in Narcos Season 3. While Netflix hasn’t been forthcoming on what viewers can expect from Season 3, the second season had left enough evidence on what the upcoming season will deal with.

GQ Australia reported that with the Cali Cartel coming into the picture, the focus will now be on the Rodriguez Orejuela brothers. Gilberto and Miguel Rodriguez Orejuela founded the Cali Cartel along with José Santacruz Londoño.

The Cali Cartel had its foundation in Cali, Columbia, way back in 1977. The Cali Cartel initially worked with the Medellin Cartel formed by Escobar. In the 1980s they decided to severe ties with the wealthiest drug cartel in Columbia.

Unlike Escobar’s Medellin Cartel, the Cali Cartel didn’t use brute force to continue with their business. Being more professional, the Cali Cartel used bribery to keep their operations running smoothly.
