One of the salient features of the American crime drama TV series “Narcos” on Netflix is its narration-style presentation which for the past two seasons had been done by Boyd Holbrook who plays DEA Agent Steve Murphy.
However, with the death of Pablo Escobar, played by Brazilian actor Wagner Moura, during Season 2 of “Narcos,” it seems that the storyline for Steve Murphy has also ended. Based on real life, Steve Murphy also left Colombia after the death of Pablo Escobar.
As a result, actor Boyd Holbrook has yet to be confirmed for Season 3 of “Narcos.” With that being said, there are now reports saying that the new narrator for the show for the upcoming season is going to be actor Pedro Pascal, who plays DEA Agent Javier Pena, reports Game & Guide.
Fans of “Narcos” would certainly want to see Murphy reuniting with Javier Pena in the next season of “Narcos.”
It has already been confirmed that Pedro Pascal will reprise his character in the third season of “Narcos” even though Javier Pena was not involved at all in bringing down the Cali Cartel.
Boyd Holbrook’s return to “Narcos” still remains uncertain because the actor is reportedly trying to make his transition to movies. He recently appeared in the trailer for “Wolverine 3: Logan” and is also rumored to be in Shane Black’s “The Predator.”
Reports have it that his filming schedule in the movies would no longer allow him to continue with the TV series. There are also reports saying that Holbrook’s character is not a fan-favorite in “Narcos” so the showrunners might have decided to let him go as well.
That’s in addition to the fact that, like Pena, Murphy was also not involved in the DEA operation that brought down the Cali Cartel.
Moving on from ‘Narcos’
Meanwhile, after his successful stint in “Narcos” playing the role of Pablo Escobar, Wagner Moura shall reportedly be playing a Brazilian political icon in his next acting assignment.
Moura will be taking on the role of Carlos Marighella in the movie “Marighella” which tells the story of the leftist leader of Brazil’s National Liberation Alliance who was hunted by the US in the 60s as a guerilla, details Headlines & Global News.
Filming for “Marighella” is reported to start in early 2017. Moura disclosed recently that the production team has been busy with the movie’s script since 2013.
Wagner Moura has become so popular and synonymous with “Narcos,” that Netflix is still promoting the show’s Pablo Escobar series. Recently, Netflix released a behind the scenes feature on how “Narcos” filmed Pablo Escobar’s death scene.
The Brazilian actor was quoted as saying that they ended up shooting in the real house where Pablo was living as well as the roof right beside where he was killed.
The actor also did most of the stunts himself in the Pablo Escobar death scene from “Narcos” Season 2 which he described as intense and disturbing at the same time.
Recent casting additions
The latest casting for “Narcos” Season 3 is actress Kerry Bishe who will take on the role of Christina. She is an American woman whose Colombian husband is actually involved in the cartel.
She will turn to the US embassy in Colombia to help her get away from her husband because, with the things she knows about him and the cartel, the only way she can escape from it all is if she is already dead.
Bishe is coming off fresh from her stint in the fourth and final season of “Halt and Catch Fire” on AMC. She also appeared in the movie “Argo” that starred Ben Affleck.
In addition to Bishe, other actors who have been already confirmed for “Narcos” Season 3 are Michael Stahl-David of “Show Me a Hero,” and Matt Whelan from New Zealand.
Stahl-David shall be portraying the role of Chris Feistl, a young American DEA agent who sought out an assignment to Colombia as the drug trade shifts to the takeover of the Cali Cartel in light of the death of Pablo Escobar. Whelan, on the other hand, shall be taking on the role of Feistl’s partner, Daniel Van Ness.
