Season 3 of the American crime drama TV series “Narcos” on Netflix is still 11 months away from streaming but the production team is now busy on the casting of the hit show.
The latest casting for “Narcos” Season 3 is actress Kerry Bishe who will take on the role of Christina. She is an American woman whose Colombian husband is actually involved in the cartel, details The Hollywood Reporter.
She will turn to the US embassy in Colombia to help her get away from her husband because, with the things she knows about him and the cartel, the only way she can escape from it all is if she is already dead.
Bishe is coming off fresh from filming for the fourth and final season of “Halt and Catch Fire” to air on AMC next year. She also appeared in the movie “Argo” a few years back that starred Ben Affleck.
In addition to Bishe, other actors who have been already confirmed for “Narcos” Season 3 are Michael Stahl-David of “Show Me a Hero,” and Matt Whelan from New Zealand.
Stahl-David shall be portraying the role of Chris Feistl, a young American DEA agent who sought out an assignment to Colombia as the drug trade shifts to the takeover of the Cali Cartel in light of the death of Pablo Escobar. Whelan, on the other hand, shall be taking on the role of Feistl’s partner, Daniel Van Ness.
Return of Boyd Holbrook still uncertain?
There are reports saying that the return of actor Boyd Holbrook in “Narcos” Season 3 is still uncertain at this time despite him playing an important role in Season 2 as DEA agent Steve Murphy.
Some fans of “Narcos” are expecting to see Murphy reuniting with Javier Pena, played by Pedro Pascal, in the next season of “Narcos,” notes Slash Film.
It has already been confirmed that Pedro Pascal will reprise his character in the third season of “Narcos” even though Javier Pena was not involved at all in bringing down the Cali Cartel.
Boyd Holbrook’s return to “Narcos” still remains uncertain because the actor is reportedly trying to make his transition to movies. He recently appeared in the trailer for “Wolverine 3: Logan” and is also rumored to be in Shane Black’s “The Predator.”
Reports have it that his filming schedule in the movies would no longer allow him to continue with the TV series. There are also reports saying that Holbrook’s character is not a fan-favorite in “Narcos” so the showrunners might have decided to let him go as well.
That’s in addition to the fact that, like Pena, Murphy was also not involved in the DEA operation that brought down the Cali Cartel.
Moving forward with the story
The second season of “Narcos” on Netflix showed how the Cali Cartel took the rag out of the foot of Pablo Escobar and the Medellin cartel to become Colombia’s new drug kingpins.
The good strategy on the part of the Cali Cartel is that unlike Escobar and his Medellin cartel, the former worked with the Colombian government among other groups to make it look like it was concerned.
Among the groups utilized by the Cali Cartel as shown in Season 2 of “Narcos” was the Los Pepes, which disbanded shortly after the death of Pablo Escobar and the Medellin cartel.
Reports have it that in the upcoming third season of the TV series, the Colombian government shall be restoring Los Pepes and used the group to give out intelligence reports about the whereabouts of drug lords and the drug trade itself in the country.
Eric Newman, co-showrunner of “Narcos,” also debunked speculations that Cali Cartel stalwart Gilberto Orejuela, played by Damian Alcazar, shall be the focal point of the third season of the TV series.
