The coming year will see a list of electric vehicles hit the road and one of the most anticipated is the Tesla Model 3. Tesla CEO Elon Musk has informed that the buyers will have to shell around $35,000 to get their hands on the latest EV from the company.
Tesla Model 3 is the most anticipated EV, and many have already made their deposits for the upcoming model from Tesla. Reports suggest that Tesla will start the mass production of Tesla Model 3 around mid-2017 and look for an early 2018 launch.
For Tesla Model 3, Tesla will be collaborating with the German firm, Grohmann Engineering. They have helped the American car manufacturer in developing the automated manufacturing systems. Tesla plans to make around 500,000 EVs from 2018 with the aid of Grohmann Engineering.
According to Car and Driver, the buyers of the Tesla Model 3 will get access to the Supercharger network for super fast DC charging. This feature will come handy if the owners plan on taking the Tesla Model 3 for long road trips.
The owners of Model X and Model S already enjoy the free and unlimited access to Supercharger. Tesla decided that they will allow the users of Tesla Model 3 some freebies. They wouldn’t get free unlimited access to Supercharger, but a nominal amount of free usage.
The users of Tesla Model 3 will get 400 kWh of free Supercharge usage, annually. If they use more than that, they will have to pay a nominal fee for the same. The leading car company hasn’t disclosed the price for the same.
The company has been very clear from the beginning that for Tesla Model 3, the users will not enjoy free unlimited access to Supercharging network unless they are traveling outside their local zone.
Musk spoke about the issue once again during the question-answer session with the shareholders. He said that the electric cars shouldn’t use the Supercharging network like they use with gas. The electric vehicles work like smartphones when it comes to charging. The user charges it to full and is good to go until it requires charging once more.
Since Supercharging network requirement rises only during long drives, the company has decided to provide the users of Tesla Model 3 with a new scheme. Tesla emphasized on the issue that Superchargers are intended only as trip enablers or when the regular charging doesn’t work. However, Tesla users seldom pay attention to the company’s words of advice when it comes to Supercharging.
Tesla had been issuing a notice to force the owners to stop supercharging their cars when it isn’t required and to stop overcharging their car. They feel that the car will continue charging for long as it is plugged in and this would help them ride longer, but in reality, the mechanism doesn’t work in that fashion.
Tesla will reveal Tesla Model 3 in the next few months. The price range for the car makes it one of the cheapest EVs on the market. The price along with the free long-distance Supercharging deal will surely work in Tesla’s favor.
Tesla knows that price and incentives aren’t the only features that sell a car. They have, therefore, incorporated different features and specs in Tesla Model 3. According to Game N Guide, Tesla Model 3 will have a peak performance of 215 miles per charge. The car will continue to follow the rigid standards of the company while enhancing its performance.
