‘Mr. Robot’ Season 3 Rami Malek Says TV Series Brings Attention to People Suffering from Mental Illness

Rami Malek, the Emmy Award-winning actor who portrays Elliot Alderson in the American psychological thriller drama TV series “Mr. Robot” on the USA Network, says that he is so proud of the show and its creator Sam Esmail for enabling the TV series to gain a cult-like following worldwide.

Malek, who recently filmed a movie in Serbia, did not actually know how popular “Mr. Robot” has become until he encountered several fans in the country who wanted to get an update from him about the TV series.

The actor said that the Serbian fans had nothing but good things to say about “Mr. Robot” and how the characters in the show have affected them.

He said that he never had that experience before and he is so happy and proud to be an integral part of “Mr. Robot.”

More importantly, he is very elated that the TV show is bringing attention to people suffering from mental illness and to be able to have a “Mr. Robot” contributing something to help people around the world is quite satisfying for Rami Malek, reports the International Business Times.

Veteran actor Christian Slater, who plays Mr. Robot and Elliot’s father in the TV series, also echoes the statement of the show’s lead character.

He said that being part of “Mr. Robot” and having other experiences that did not necessarily go in the direction that he would have liked to have gone has certainly made it a much deeper and gratifying experience.

When asked for possible spoilers for the upcoming third season of “Mr. Robot,” both Rami Malek and Christian Slater did not say anything.

However, Esmail did tease that the upcoming season will focus on disintegration but he did not elaborate any further.

The showrunner added that fans should watch Angela, played by Portia Doubleday, and what she would do in the upcoming Season 3 of “Mr. Robot.” Viewers of the TV series are still not aware of what the true intention of Angela really is and they will have a clearer understanding of it come the third season.

Esmail also said that fans should also watch out what will happen to Darlene, played by Carly Chaikin, now that she is already in the custody of the FBI after being arrested in Season 2.

A surprise hit

USA Network has yet to announce the official release date of “Mr. Robot” Season 3 but it is most likely to air in the same time period as its first two seasons.

The hacker series was such a surprise hit and being critically-acclaimed also helped further raise the popularity of the show not only among the hacking community but also those who like to follow an intelligent psychological drama.

In fact, the success of “Mr. Robot” has also fueled the meteoric rise of Rami Malek as an actor, notes Game & Guide.

But there are reports swirling around saying that Rami Malek might not be handling the sudden limelight thrust on the show and on its cast members very well. Accordingly, the actor has shown indications at being obsessed with the show’s ratings.

The report added that Rami Malek might be turning into something like Elliot, the “Mr. Robot” Season 3 character he portrays on screen. An insider claimed the actor seems to be acting strangely since the show’s popularity skyrocketed.

Malek is said to be constantly checking the show’s social media popularity, chain smoking, and memorizing scripts when not at work.

Meanwhile, actress Stephanie Corneliussen revealed in a recent interview that Season 3 of “Mr. Robot” would see more of her character’s deceitfulness.

The actress plays the role of Joanna Wellick and it was revealed in Season 2 that she used series main protagonist Elliot Anderson to her advantage in order to find and get back to her husband, Will Tyrell, played by Martin Wallstrom.

It has been speculated that Joanna will work on clearing her husband’s name of all the criminal charges that he is facing.
