When “Mr. Robot” arrived, everyone was taken by surprise by the show and just how deep it went into its premise. People quickly grew to love it, and currently it’s one of the highest-rated productions on the screen. With season 3 coming up, many people have been wondering what they can expect from the next set of episodes, and whether the show will manage to live up to the standards the producers set in the previous seasons.
Recently, the show’s creator Sam Esmail decided to “leak” some details about season 3 by posting a photo of the script on his Twitter account. From what we could see on the page, there will be a scene in which Elliot is talking to his psychiatrist, explaining his disappointment in society.
He states the fact that Donald Trump got elected President as one of the main examples for his attitude, but other than that, the “leak” didn’t reveal too much. It was still more than enough for fans of the show to immediately start discussing the implications of that scene on the season as a whole, and many are confident that this season is going to blow the previous ones out the water by a large margin.
Additional discussions about the show revealed that season 3 will feature the results of Trump’s election as a major part of its plot, and we’re going to see some interesting developments in the hacker society as a result.
With economy collapsing, this could be the perfect opportunity for Elliot and the others to continue causing chaos. Still, we saw Elliot going through some significant changes in his personality over the last two seasons, so it’s not clear if he will actually go in that direction, or if he’s more disappointed by society itself.
It would be interesting to see Elliot taking up a campaign against the American citizens themselves, but many fans are skeptical that the producers are going to go that far for many reasons. In the least, it could be seen as glorifying terrorism, something which the producers most certainly don’t want to involve themselves with right now.
There are plenty of ways to portray the effects of Trump’s election on our world without having to resort to pushing Elliot in questionable directions though, and considering how the show was handled so far, we have every reason to believe that the producers have some clever ideas for its next season.
It’s also interesting to note that the show could potentially have a stronger political agenda with its third season. It’s no secret that Sam Esmail was a strong Hillary supporter, and he expressed his disappointment with the results of the elections when they were announced.
Because of this, some fans are afraid that the showrunner could decide to incorporate his own political views into the show on a deeper level, and start annoying his fans with those ideas. That would quickly drag the show down and send it on its way out, so hopefully Esmail doesn’t have that on his mind.
There are talks about this season being the show’s last though, so who knows. Maybe the producers want to send it off with a bang, in which case they would have far fewer reservations for the kinds of stories they would portray in season 3. On the other hand, just because the show might end now doesn’t mean that fans won’t remember it for a long time, and it’s important to make sure that they are left with a positive impression in the end.
