Christian Slater, who portrays the titular Mr. Robot in the USA Network series of the same title has spilled some details on the upcoming second season of the hit show.
Speaking to Variety, Slater reveals that the second season will have a different approach than the pilot season. The 46-year-old actor says that one example of a change they did is the process of how they do the table read.
Slater explained that during the first season, they performed a week-by-week table read but for this season, they are now doing a one-time read of the first six episodes followed by another session for the rest of the episodes.
The Golden Globe winner also commended the writers and producers of the show on their massive preparation for the changes they are about to bring in the upcoming second season of “Mr. Robot.”
He says that he’s been blown away with executive producers Sam Esmail’s ability to prepare and make sure that all the cast members are on the same page in terms of the season’s plot.
When asked what fans can expect for Season 2, Slater reveals that the show has always been a mysterious TV series and it would be that much more interesting despite a little difficulty if the actors were kept in the dark as well.
Series creator and showrunner Sam Esmail also shared some details about the upcoming season. He says that the first season’s critical acclaim gave them a lot of confidence. He says that the people behind the TV series are preparing well for the second season.
Despite the pressure, Esmail remains positive that they can deliver a good season for the viewers. He admits that he’s back to square one in terms of approaching the storyline for Season 2.
When asked to give hints for fans, Esmail teased that fans should be prepared for massive changes in the show.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, the showrunner jests that during the first season, because Rami Malek’s Elliot wasn’t aware of the mystery surrounding Mr. Robot, there was an obvious story to tell.
Now that Elliot knows who Mr. Robot is and what his real motives are, Season 2 will focus on what does it mean for the hacker and what does Elliot really wants.
“Mr. Robot” is expected to return for its sophomore season this summer and filming have already commenced although USA Network has not yet confirmed an exact release date.
Fashion & Style reports that as part of the big change for the upcoming season, fans will be introduced to a slew of new characters and how their arrival will affect the lives of existing characters.
Just like the first season, the upcoming season will comprise of 10 episodes, all of which will be directed by Esmail himself.
Speaking to Variety, Slater has already teased that fans should look forward to the performance of Joey Bada$$.

The 21-year-old hip-hop artist has been cast as Leon, Elliot’s new close friend in the neighborhood. Slater recounts seeing Esmail having a huge grin on his face on one of Joey’s performance.
Stephanie Corneliussen, who plays Joana, has already been upgraded to series regular in Season 2. The season will also see the return of Portia Doubleday as Angela and Carly Chaikin who portrays Elliot’s sister Darlene.
BD Wong’s Whiterose will also be returning for Season 2. Whiterose is the transgender woman who is the head of the Dark Army. The character served as one of the most interesting in the show which fans really loved.
The show has cast Grace Grummer as FBI agent Dominique DiPierro as well as Craig Robinson as Ray, another neighbor of Elliot who helps him.
Chris Conroy joins the cast as Derek, a young man in Joana’s life. Aasif Mandvi will portray the role of a special agent named Jesse.
