The Motorola Moto X 2014 is the flagship device from Motorola this year while the Samsung Galaxy S4 was the last generation flagship of 2013 from the Korean Smartphone Giant. Both of these devices come with premium features that make them noteworthy among smartphone lovers. However, the newer generation Moto X is a superior device with undoubtedly greater performance and features. Still, let us look at how the S4 fares against this Moto beast.
Display:
Firstly, both of these phones come with an AMOLED capacitive touchscreen. However, the Samsung Galaxy S4 consists of a vivid and extremely vibrant Super AMOLED display. The Motorola Moto X 2014 has a 5.2inch full-HD display with 1080X1920 pixels and 16M colors. It has a pixel density of 424ppi. It is protected by a Corning Gorilla Glass 3 and supports multi-touch input. The Galaxy S4 on the other hand features a 5.0inch full-HD display while also being protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3.
Smartphone Hardware and OS:
The Motorola Moto X 2014 was launched with the Android OS, v4.4.4 (KitKat) version and is upgradable to Android v5.0 Lollipop. It houses a Quad-core 2.5 GHz Krait 400 CPU working on the Qualcomm MSM8974AC Snapdragon 801 chipset. At the same time, it includes an Adreno 330 GPU.
The Samsung Galaxy S4, on the other hand, features a Quad-core 1.6 GHz Cortex-A15 & quad-core 1.2 GHz Cortex-A7 CPUs based on the Exynos 5 Octa 5410 chipset. Graphics is powered by a PowerVR SGX544MP3 GPU. It was released with the Android OS, v4.2.2 (Jelly Bean) version and later updated to v4.3. Later, the Android v4.4.2 update was rolled out and presently it expected to have a planned upgrade to Android v5.0 Lollipop.
Memory and Storage:
In the memory department, the Motorola Moto X 2014 comes with two internal variants of 16/32GB, while running on 2GB of RAM. It does not have an external memory card slot. The Samsung Galaxy S4 has three different variants of 16/32/64GB and triumphs over the Moto in this aspect due to the inclusion of an external memory card slot, supporting up to 64GB.
Camera:
The Motorola Moto X has a highly innovative 13MP camera with 4128×3096 pixels with auto-focus and LED flash. It also includes other features like Geo-tagging, touch focus, face detection, panorama, HDR. It is capable of recording videos at a massive 2160p resolution at 30fps with HDR. It also has a secondary 2MP camera with 1080p support.
The rear camera lens has a ring-type flash surrounding it. In the S4, a rear 13 MP shooter with 4128 x 3096 pixels is present with autofocus and LED flash features. Other features include Dual Shot, geo-tagging, Simultaneous HD video and image recording, face/smile detection, touch focus and HDR. It comes with a 2MP secondary camera with 1080p dual video call support.
