Motorola Moto G4 Play Isn’t Worth the $150 Price Tag, Device Performs Poorer Than a Moto G 2015!

If not for the Moto G4, the downgraded and cheaper Moto G4 Play would be considered the deal of the century. For 150 dollars, 130 pounds or Australian $279, you can get a budget Android device at a rock-bottom price. However, we already have a Moto G4. It comes with an upgraded and faster processor, better camera and a larger display.

Moreover, it costs a little more than the Play, around 39 pounds or 50 dollars more. Therefore, it makes sense to spend a little more money and get the Moto G4. That being said, the Moto G4 Play is a great budget device, and there is never a moment when a person can think that he can’t use this device.

It comes with a great balance of price and value to accomplish real-world stuff like texting, emailing, uploading photos and more.

The Moto G4 Play is quite similar to its elder sibling, the G4. However, it is a just a little smaller. The images appear pretty sharp and crisp in the 5-inch display having a screen resolution of 1280×720 pixels. However, with adaptive brightness activated, it is possible that you might have an issue reading the screen under sunlight.

For the past year, the Android motto for Google has been to be together and not be the same. Sadly, it seems like Motorola wasn’t paying much attention to it. On the software side, there’s not a lot of difference between the Moto G4 Play and a Nexus. This doesn’t mean that stock Android is worth complaining about on a device which does not belong to the Google Nexus line-up.

That being said, when you compare the Play to its predecessor, the 2016 version appears to be an afterthought. It feels like a step back, especially considering what Moto G 2015 offered, as a budget device. From the inside out, Lenovo has removed the features which make the Moto phones unique.

The Moto G4 Play is pretty much your basic Android phone with nothing to set it apart, besides a very low price tag. After the Moto G line began in 2013, it gave new meaning to what could be called a budget phone.

It provided great design and solid performance for a low price tag. This is the first year when the Moto G line has been divided into three different smartphones: the Moto G4, the Moto G4 Plus, and the Moto G4 Play.

It is somewhat similar to what happened with the Moto Z line. The Plus and G4 are more expensive than Play and offer better specs. The G4 Play is the smallest among them and costs 30 dollars less than the 2015 1GB Moto G variant. It has more similarities with this device, compared to its elder siblings.

It has the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor, which powered the Moto G 2015, but includes 2GB of RAM. It comes with 16GB of internal storage capacity, but a microSD card can bump up the storage capacity to 256GB.

The 720p display is not a problem since the screen size is lower as well. Moreover, it’s great that Lenovo has a Moto G device which isn’t too big for people who don’t prefer 5.5inch displays. However, it is unclear why smartphone manufacturers provide inferior specs in smaller devices.

The device has one speaker on the front, but it’s not too loud. At the same time, it not as bad as devices like the Nexus 5X, which is barely audible. Performance is a tricky subject for the Moto G4 Play. It is similar to that of Moto G 2015, if not worse.
