Motorola has recently released the 2014 Moto G, which is also popular as the Moto G2. However, how does it compare to the Moto E? Here’s a test to find out. First we must get the basics right. The late-model smartphone isn’t known as the Moto G2, but that’s what the people have named it for easy reference, as it is very easy to confuse between two devices that sport entirely different features.
Design:
The Moto G2 is very similar to the Moto E in terms of exterior look, feel and finish, although, the basic difference between the two devices is their screen size that sets them apart. While the Moto G2 boasts of a 5-inch display, the Moto E sports a 4.3-inch touchscreen.
Both devices feature interchangeable and replaceable covers known as Moto Shells, which offer an amazing customization option. The Moto G2 is also a tad thinner than the Moto E at 11 mm, compared to the latter’s 12.3 mm. The Moto G2 is however heavier than the E by 7 grams thanks to its larger dimensions.
Display:
While the Moto G2 packs in 720 x 1,280 pixel resolution with 249 ppi density, the Moto E features 540 x 960 pixel density along with 256 ppi. The Moto G2 also features better viewing angles than the Moto E.
Hardware:
The Moto E draws power from a dual-core 1.2 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 processor with 1 GB of RAM. The Motorola Moto G2, on the other hand, draws power from a 1.2 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 quad-core processor with 1 GB of RAM. It is a better device for gaming.
The Moto G2 is available in 8 and 16 GB of internal storage variants, which is further expandable via an external MicroSD card slot.
Camera:
The Moto G2 features an 8 Mp primary camera supporting 720 pixel resolution. It is however very difficult for an 8 MP camera to support 1080 pixel resolution. The Moto E boasts of a 5 MP primary camera sporting 480 pixel resolution, but unlike the G2, it does not sport a LED flash.
The Moto E is also a disappointment for the selfie-addicts as the device does not sport a front camera, although, the Moto G2’s 2 MP secondary camera is up to the task.
Battery:
The Moto G2 is the smartest performer here and lasts about a day on constant usage. The Moto E features a powerful battery too, although, it drains out a lot quicker on Wi-Fi usage and gaming.
