Motorola has unveiled a new variant to its Moto G 2nd generation smartphone that it released in September last year. There is now a new model to Motorola Moto G 2nd generation that has been upgraded to 4G and is also capable of LTE connectivity.
The Motorola Moto G 2nd generation was released in September last year and is highly regarded as the best budget smartphone in the market. It came out with vast improvements to the Moto G version released in 2013.
However, instead of entirely releasing a new smartphone like a Motorola Moto G 3rd generation perhaps, the Japanese tech company decided to just make some major tweaks on the existing model to come up with a new and more powerful variant of the Moto G 2nd generation.
The new Motorola Moto G 2nd gen retained most of the features of its earlier version and apart from the 4G and LTE capabilities, the other two major differences are that the current model is coming out of the box with Android 5.0 Lollipop on it with possibly free upgrade to Android 5.1 Lollipop, and of course its price.
When the Motorola Moto G 2nd gen came out to the markets after its official launch in September last year, it carried a retail price of only $180.
The latest variant has yet to make its roll out to the global retail markets but when it was released to the UK market this week, it had a retail price of $236. Considering the new features and capabilities it possesses, the upgraded Motorola Moto G 2nd gen is still a steal compared to most other smartphones with practically the same features available in the market today.
Best-selling Motorola smartphone
Because of its premium features and very affordable price, the Motorola Moto G 2nd gen turned out to be the best-selling smartphone in Motorola’s history, reports the Day Herald.
When it was released in September last year, the Motorola smartphone became one of the most powerful mobile devices in the market and practically went at par with the flagship smartphones of Samsung and Sony.
But because of its budget price, it has significantly carved its own niche in the highly competitive smartphone market.
With practically the same features as the current flagship smartphones that were out in the market during it official launch, it was already understood why the budget-conscious buyers trooped and formed a beeline for the Motorola Moto G 2nd gen.
The smartphone features a 5-inch display with a 720 x 1280 screen resolution that is protected by a Corning Gorilla Glass 3. It is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 chipset with a powerful 1.2 GHz quad-core processor.
It has a RAM capacity of 1GB and an internal storage capacity of 8GB that can be upgraded to 32GB using a micro SD card. The Motorola Moto G 2nd gen has an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera with autofocus and LED flash.
Most of these features are still part of the new version of the smartphone that is once again expected to make a big splash in the global retail markets anytime soon.
