The Android scene has been quite lively lately, with various rumors and official announcements making people excited. On one hand, we’ve been hearing more and more rumors about the Motorola Moto G’s new 2015 edition, while on the other, Samsung have had some interesting leaks come out of their offices.
Details on the new Galaxy Note 5 seem to have been leaked, as well as more information about the Moto G 2015, and there seems to be something interesting going on between the Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge, as the company has apparently managed to create some competition between its own devices. That’s not unheard of, but the way in which these two devices are particularly getting in each other’s way is interesting.
The problem is that, other than the obvious difference in the screen edge, the two devices are quite similar and close to each other in their market segment, which has prompted some critics to say that Samsung have made an unnecessary release with at least one of the phones. Both are pretty strong on the market, but the company could have probably benefited more from releasing one phone and concentrating on it in their marketing and support alike.
There have been some leaks about the Galaxy Note 5 as well, and not all of them have bene very positive. A few pictures came out showing a device that looks quite similar to the Galaxy S6 in its visual style, and customers have been disappointed with that revelation, expecting something closer to the Note 4 instead.
And that makes sense after all, but it could also be an indication that Samsung are moving towards a more unified design language, much like other companies on the market have been doing lately. What this means is that in the future, we might start seeing more and more of their devices looking alike, with the only major difference being in the screen size.
That’s not something that all customers want to see, judging by responses to the alleged leak of the Note 5, but it could be a useful move for the company itself if they want to streamline their development of new devices and make it easier to introduce new entries into their lines.
It’s also apparent that the stylus will be kept, which would be an interesting idea as well, as not many other manufacturers are sticking to this design element nowadays, even on larger devices. Microsoft have been putting some effort into quality stylus navigation, but that’s about it.
Motorola’s new Moto G has also been a somewhat questionable leak, as the pictures show a device without many significant changes from the previous entry in the line. The Moto Go has been performing better than the original Moto G, so it’s clear that the company needs to introduce some changes to the device’s design if they want to revive its success.
Because of this, it would be strange if the leak about the Moto G is true, as it would mean that Motorola are trying to make the device very similar to the original Moto G. That could lead to some problems with their marketing, unless they play their cards right – and we can definitely see them having some trouble with the branding if they want to keep the “Moto G” name consistent and not add any extra numbers to it. That, however, is a trend that some fans have been pointing out as annoying, especially the way Apple has been doing it.
