The American Smartphone Maker, Motorola, presently a subsidiary of Lenovo is planning to launch a budget 4G handset in India next year. Rick Osterloh, the head of Motorola Mobility stated in an interview with The Economic Times that Motorola wishes to reach the Top 3 Smartphone Makers Chart by the end of 2015.
Keeping up with that objective in mind, they have now decided to launch a 4G enabled affordable handset for India. According to him, the transition to 4G will take place in a very quick manner. As a result, the company wishes to be highly aggressive with the 4G value proposition for its end users.
Recently, some weeks ago, Motorola reached the benchmark of 2.5 million handset sales in India and they wish to bump it up to the 3 million mark by January 2015. According to a statistical survey conducted by IDC India, Motorola has occupied the fifth place in the Indian smartphone market share-related chart. Currently, it enjoys a 5% market share. On rank 1, we have Samsung with a massive 24% followed by Micromax at 20%. Karbonn and Lava occupy the third and fourth position with 8% market shares each.
However, it needs to be noted that Motorola is only selling its phones through the online shopping store website, Flipkart. With their current market share, Motorola has certainly achieved a lot considering that they have been selling via a single solitary channel. Close rivals Xiaomi along with other domestic players have gained similar success with a similar emulated business model.
Motorola will most likely pose a serious threat to all the local smartphone makers with its 4G devices launched in the Indian market, next year. Is the upcoming budget phone Motorola Moto E2? The company has not yet specified any name for its upcoming budget smartphone. However, most believe that this upcoming device is most likely to be the second generation of the Moto E.
Recently, a few days ago, a Greek Blog known as Techmaniacs revealed that the company might have already started working on the Motorola Moto E2. According to it, this budget smartphone will have internal hardware similar to that in the Moto G. This includes a Snapdragon 400 SoC (System on chip) processor with, 1GB RAM, 5 megapixel primary camera.
It is obvious to expect that the phone will run on the latest version of Android considering its release next year. It will most likely be an updated version of the Android 5.0 Lollipop OS. Presently, nothing has been confirmed, and Motorola is yet to make a response to the Moto E2 rumors circulating the internet. As a result, all of this remains pure speculation unless Motorola makes it official.
