Motorola Moto 360 Successor Now on Testing Phase; Smartwatch May Come Out in Two Sizes, And More

The Motorola Moto 360 will turn one year in the market by next month and if recent sightings of its successor being tested in Chicago, where the American tech company is headquartered, are accurate, it would appear that the second generation smartwatch would be launched and make its way to the market very soon.

According to The Verge, all signs indicate that the new Motorola Moto 360 will be arriving in the near future. A commuter in Chicago reported that he recently spotted a smartwatch that looks exactly like the leaks released on the internet about the second generation Motorola Moto 360.

It is being presumed by experts that the wearers may probably be Motorola employees who would certainly not give away much in terms of the device specifications and features, but it looks like they are already testing the smartphone.

Based on recent leaked images, the most obvious difference between the new Motorola Moto 360 and the current model is the larger lugs, where the watch connects to its leather straps. However, the flat area or ‘flat tire’ at the bottom of the display will be present again on the new model.

In addition, there have been reports that new Motorola Moto 360 may actually come in two different sizes – a small one and a large one – just like the Apple Watch.

Traditional watch design

The new smartwatch shall reportedly sport a more traditional watch design, but the position of the button has been changed from its predecessor, making it more comfortable to press, details Techno Buffalo.

While the leaked specification and features of the device have yet to be confirmed or denied by Motorola, a recent document obtained by sources said that the new Motorola Moto 360 would have a 270 mAH battery for the small variant and 300 mAH battery for the larger model.

There are reports that Motorola may actually consider launching the new Motorola Moto 360 at the IFA 2015 event, the world’s largest consumer electronics fair, to be held in Berlin, Germany on September 4 to 9.

However, until Motorola makes an official pronouncement or statement regarding the new Motorola Moto 360, then everything is speculation at this point.

Best-looking Android wear

When it was launched in September last year, the Motorola Moto 360 was one of the best-looking Android wears that made it to the market.

Even with the emergence of other smart wearables, including the boxy-looking Apple Watch which was launched in March this year, the Motorola Moto 360 still has the best-looking smartwatch design with its circular watch face that has been taken from the stylish designer wristwatches with analog tickers.

In terms of design, the Motorola Moto 360 was a lot better than the very computerized-looking Pebble Steel, Samsung Gear Live, and the LG G Watch.

Apart from its exterior appeal, the smart wearable from the American tech company is also built to quality as it is made of stainless steel housing and genuine leather default wristband, making it ideal to wear for any occasion.

As far as major downsides are concerned, the Motorola Moto 360 lacks longevity due to its poor battery life. It also has an underperforming processor that does not seem to match the smart wearable’s good looks.

Meanwhile, the Android Wear 5.1.1 has started rolling in the middle of July to Android smart wearables including the Motorola Moto 360.

While the update has been initially delayed due to some performance problems, it eventually started rolling along nicely to smartwatches including the LG Watch Urbane, the Sony Smartwatch 3, the Samsung Gear Live, and the Motorola Moto 360.

Motorola Mobility explained that the Android Wear 5.1.1, whose latest update began coming along over-the-air (OTA), actually enhances the Wi-Fi connectivity of the smartwatch with other Android devices.
