Motorola’s Droid Turbo came out not long after Google released the most recent major update for Android, 5.0 Lollipop. Since October, the device hasn’t had access to the new version of the operating system, even though most buyers were expecting to get the update shortly after purchasing the device. And now, the wait seems to be finally over for everyone, thankfully – Google’s Android 5.0 Lollipop is being deployed to a variety of additional devices, among which is the Motorola Droid Turbo.
Motorola are actually among the companies that handle Android updates most responsibly, as others tend to lag behind when it comes to releasing their own re-branded and modified versions of the operating system. The Moto X Pure Edition and Moto G were among the first devices to get the latest Android updates, and now the Turbo is next in line, as reports indicate that the new version of the OS will be released for it very shortly.
Currently, owners of the device have access to Android 4.4.4 KitKat, and even though Verizon have already updated their own devices a few times so far, the Android 5.0 update still hasn’t reached users of the Droid Turbo. The update was actually expected to be released in December, as rumors started surfacing back then that a new software update was being prepared and was already being pushed through the final stages of testing. Many were suspecting that this was the long-awaited 5.0 lollipop update, but that wasn’t the case – the update was released a few days after the rumors came out, and was nothing more than a collection of bug fixes.
No new features were introduced back then, so all owners of the device turned their eyes to January as a possible release period for Android 5.0. It seems that those expectations weren’t that far from reality, as the new update is now about to be rolled out.
The update is already being tested at the Motorola Feedback Network, where Motorola push out updates to a select group of users for the purpose of pre-release testing and polish. The program has been working great so far, and has resulted in the discovery of various bugs before updates have been deployed live, and now progress seems to be going along just as great with the new Android 5.0 Lollipop update for the Droid Turbo. Most responses have been positive, and it doesn’t seem like Motorola actually have a lot of fixing to do before they release the update. With that in mind, those who own the device should probably get ready for the release, as it’s expected to happen anytime in the next few days/weeks now.
