In line with the upcoming premiere of the highly-anticipated film “Stars Wars: The Force Awakens,” Motorola and Verizon have teamed up with Disney to produce their own Star Wars-themed Droid Turbo 2 smartphone.
According to Droid Life, starting on December 11, tech enthusiasts and “Stars Wars” fans will be able to customize a Star Wars-inspired Droid Turbo 2 from the company’s Moto Maker.
According to Phone Arena, each specific “Stars Wars” character was used as inspiration for the phone’s color scheme and wallpaper that comes loaded to the device when it ships.
Five designs inspired by BB-8 droid, Kylo Ren, Poe Dameron, Rey, and the First Order Storm Trooper have been created for users to choose from for their Droid Turbo 2.
This isn’t the first time that Motorola tried to incorporate the epic space opera film into their devices. Back in 2012, Motorola has also released an R2-D2-inspired version of their Droid 2.
To get oneself a Stars Wars-themed Droid Turbo 2, just visit and log on to the Moto Maker site.
As a bonus, Verizon will make these exclusive wallpapers available to customers soon. It will be made available via a Play Store app.
As for those who already own a Droid Turbo 2 but wants the “Stars Wars” force to be with them, the Moto Maker also has the option for them to customize their pre-owned Droid Turbo 2 for a price.
As for how much it will cost users, Motorola hasn’t released any figures yet but expect that it will be expensive given the hype the film has created.
Also, as part of their support for the upcoming film, Verizon is giving away one of 12,000 opening weekend tickets to “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.”
To join the promo, users just need to go to Verizon’s Theory Wars website and share their expectations for the upcoming movie with the rest of the “Star Wars” fans.
“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” is the seventh installment of the main “Star Wars” franchise and the first “Star Wars” film in 10 years with the last film “Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith” released way back in 2005.
The film, directed, written and co-produced by J. J Abrams, stars the original “Stars Wars” cast Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, and Carrie Fisher along with Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, and Lupita Nyong’o, among others.
The film is set 30 years after the events of 1983’s “Return of the Jedi.” “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” will hit theaters on December 18 in 2D, 3D, and IMAX.
Meanwhile, Motorola is starting a soak test for the Droid Turbo 2. The smartphone, also known as Moto X Force outside of the US, is undergoing the test to see if there is nothing wrong with the new OS update before sending it out to all users.
As per Android Headlines, the phone manufacturer is eyeing an Android 6.0 Marshmallow update for the newly-released smartphone.
David Schuster, Motorola’s senior director of software product management, has recently revealed that the Android 6.0 Marshmallow is now available for Verizon, Sprint, and US Cellular users of the Moto X Pure Edition (2015) after rumors of a soak test surfaced last week.
Some reports claim that this is the same direction the phone manufacturer will tend to go with the Droid Turbo 2.
Also, Verizon started rolling out some updates to a few of their smartphones specifically for Wi-Fi Calling earlier this week.
The Droid Turbo 2 came out in October with Android 5.1.1 Lollipop as the operating system. It was marketed as the world’s first shatterproof screen as the device features the ShatterShield technology.
Also, judging by how long it took the first Droid Turbo to get the Lollipop update, Motorola probably has learned its lesson to speed up the time when Droid Turbo 2 gets the cottony taste of Android 6.0 Marshmallow.
