The Samsung Galaxy Alpha is one of the best performing devices released by Samsung in the year of 2014. It is an escape from the traditional looks and designs of the Samsung smartphones. There are many different variations and hardware introduced in it. The Motorola Droid Mini is a 2013 device from Motorola with fresh new features designed for the Android community and Motorola fanboys. Let’s take a look at how these devices fare against each other.
Samsung Galaxy Alpha:
The Galaxy Alpha is certainly an Alpha when it comes to the hardware specifications and features. It has a Super AMOLED capacitive display with 16M colors. The 4.7inch screen with 720X1280 pixels resolution has a pixel density of 312ppi. The device supports multi-touch input and is protected by the highly superior cutting edge technology of the Corning Gorilla Glass 4. It seems to have done an ‘Apple’ with the PayPal Certified Fingerprint sensor. It runs on the latest version of KitKat with the Android v4.4.4 OS.
The device will also get a planned upgrade to v5.0 Android OS Lollipop. Under the hood, the device works on Samsung’s Exynos 5 Octa 5430 chipset working on the Quad-core 1.8 GHz Cortex-A15 & quad-core 1.3 GHz Cortex-A7 CPU architecture. Like most Samsung flagships, the Alpha has a Mali-T628 MP6 GPU, which strays away from the mainstream Adreno GPUs. While the device does not have an expandable card slot, it comes with an internal storage of 32GB that should be sufficient enough for most users.
It runs on 2GB of RAM that is quite adequate for all heavy tasks and functions on the Alpha. The 12MP rear shooter should deal with all your macros efficiently. Dual camera, geotagging, autofocus, panorama, and all the other generic features are supported in it. The device comes with 2160p video recording capability. For your selfies, you get the 2.1MP secondary camera.
Motorola Droid Mini:
The Motorola Droid Mini has a TFT capacitive touchscreen with 16M colors. The device has a 4.3inch display with 720×1280 pixels while having a pixel density of 342ppi that is greater than the Galaxy Alpha. It has a Corning Gorilla Glass protection and supports multi-touch input. Since Motorola devices get full support from Google, you can be sure that it will be updated to Android v5.0 Lollipop OS.
It has a Dual-core 1.7 GHz Krait CPU working on the Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro chipset and an Adreno 320 GPU. Running on 2GB of RAM and 16GB internal storage capacity, it does not have a microSD slot. The Droid Mini has a 10MP rear camera with auto-focus, LED flash, geotagging, face detection and all other basic features and full-HD 1080p video recording capability. A secondary 2MP camera should be sufficient for your selfies.
