Motorola made some headlines a couple of years ago when it decided it was time to release a smartphone that had some awesome features, but keep it unlocked and under $200. That gave everyone a chance to buy a smartphone that was worth the money, stay off contract and be able to enjoy all the features of a new phone. The Moto X made many headlines with its 10MP camera, 4.7-inch display and multiple color options.
Motorola released a cheaper phone shortly after the Moto X, called the Moto G. That phone became quite popular because it came with a quad-core process, even though it had a smaller display and camera at the time. Now, a year later, Motorola has decided that it was time to upgrade the Moto G. The Moto G2 is going to be coming to the market very soon and it will bring plenty of features along with it.
Just like the Moto G, the Moto G2 is going to be considered a budget smartphone and cost just $214 when it hits the market. It will feature a quad-core processor, 1GB of RAM, up to 16GB of internal memory and a 5-inch, 1280×720 display resolution. The main difference is going to be the 5-inch display, while most of the other hardware specs fall into place with the Moto G that sells for about $100 less right now at most retailers.
The G2 is also going to have a larger, 8MP camera on the backside, compared to the smaller, 5MP option that the Moto G owners are using right now. The front facing camera is also going to get a boost to 2MP; making selfie photos look even better than before. If you plan on recording video with the front facing camera, you will be able to do so at 30 frames per second and a resolution of 720p.
As you can see, Motorola has seen some success with the Moto line of smartphones and is planning to expand. Last year’s Moto G was also advanced to a 4G LTE option, making it one of the most affordable options with the feature and competing directly with the iPhone 5C and other budget options on the market. If the Moto G2 comes to the United States and is available on all carriers, it will certainly sell very well with that larger 5-inch display, front and back cameras and larger storage capacity via microSD card.
