Money Douses Cold Water on New Excitement over Manny Pacquiao vs. Floyd Mayweather Fight!

Either Floyd Mayweather Jr. is a pickled-minded boxer or he was just taking Manny Pacquiao for a ride during their more than an hour talk at a hotel in Miami last week.

Because after the one-on-one conversation of the two welterweight boxers on January 27, it seems like the two future of Hall of Famer pugilists are about to agree on a deal to make the world’s most anticipated mega-buck fight finally happen.

Everyone who saw them talking and saw their body languages were optimistic that something positive was agreed upon. Manny Pacquiao, the outspoken boxer that he is, did not actually mention any specifics about the fight but hinted that the fight is already too close from happening.

Michael Koncz, Pacquiao’s adviser, also saw it that way after he saw the gestures of the two boxers during their brief but very eventful one-on-one meeting.

Shoots down the excitement

So when Pacquiao opened his mouth to the press and hinted that the fight is already close and might be announced in the next few days, here comes Floyd Mayweather Jr. in his Shots account posting a message that says that while people continue to lie about making the fight, he will just continue to travel and explore the world in his private jet.

He ended his post by the very descriptive hashtag #FightNotMadeYet. Plus, he also indicated that he was outside of the US when he made the post as it also came with #Jamaica.

It is most likely that Mayweather got piqued when he saw on Friday, January 30, that Top Rank chief executive Bob Arum was speaking again to the press saying that the deal for a May 2 fight in Las Vegas will be completed in the next few days, details Yahoo! News from an AFP report.

Arum even went on to say that only a few final details are being ironed out between rival networks HBO and Showtime which holds TV rights for Pacquiao and Mayweather respectively.

Does not like Arum in the picture

Mayweather has said time and again that he does not want the Top Rank boss to be involved in the discussions about the fight. Neither should he be authorized to talk and talk as if he has control or is responsible for making the fight happen.

That was the tone of his point to Pacquiao when they had a chance encounter during a Miiami Heat game in American Airlines Arena on January 27 before that more than one-hour talk in Pacman’s hotel.

But since Arum started coming into the picture, that seems to have turned off Money and thus trying to deny again this time that the mega-fight is really close from happening.

Mayweather may insist on shutting out Arum from talking about the fight but he certainly can’t keep him from the discussions and negotiation as he is the promoter of Manny Pacquiao. Mayweather is turning 38 on February 24 but he does not seem to be too old enough to make a decision based on merits instead of his whims.
