For a show that’s been around for a while already “Modern Family” still manages to stay fresh and the latest season actually started off quite strong. Some fans have been slightly disappointed with the way the plot has been moving over the last couple of seasons, particularly with regards to some parts of it, but that’s the way things are – the show obviously can’t please everyone, especially after running for several seasons and exploring some of its ideas in more detail.
One of the things that were made obvious in the season 7 premiere was that Haley and Andy will be together for a while longer, even though not all fans of the show have been very happy with that idea. According to some fans, this romance has been somewhat detrimental to the overall formula of the show, as it shifts the focus in the wrong direction and takes away from the plot elements that made the show popular in the first place.
Namely, quirky humor and a writing style that always kept fans on their toes. Lately, the show has become a bit slower paced and has settled down into a routine, with the romance between these two characters becoming the central point to a large extent. And this has led to various problems with the setup of the show, leading to various fans’ disappointment.
And yet, the premiere of season 7 wasn’t bad at all, with many fans praising the writers for coming up with several original jokes and plot development that took everyone by surprise. It looks like the show might be going back to its roots at least in some ways, which is certainly good news for those who’ve been missing the originality of its humor in the past.
All of the characters were given a lot of attention in this episode, and the writing for all of them was pretty high quality, according to most critics. However, some fans felt like the writers aren’t exploring some auxiliary plot lines enough, and are focusing too much on the main story of the show which can get old fast if they aren’t careful about it.
As we said above, Andy and Haley have been the subject of controversy among fans – but Andy in particular is a character that’s been under a lot of fire from the community. People are displeased with how his character has been developing lately, with some particular statements about his weight being thrown around.
The fact that he was overweight used to be the source of a lot of humor in the earlier seasons of the show, but many fans feel like this idea has become too exhausted at this point and the writers should just let it go. And yet, they decided to bring Andy back to his overweight state and return to making jokes about his weight, much to the disappointment of pretty much everyone. We don’t know if this trend will continue even further into the show’s future, but it looks like many fans would be happy to see it come to an end.
Mitchell has also been going through a lot of trouble, although his issues are a bit untraditional as far as personal crises go. It looks like he’s reached a peculiar point in his life where he has to overcome some personal issues, but the way the writers chose to present this part of his personality was particularly humorous to many fans and the show got a lot of praise for this part of the first episode.
All in all, season 7 started off on a good note, even though some fans were questioning where the show was headed before that. It’s clear that the writers still know what they’re doing and where to take the plot of “Modern Family”, and they’ll keep going at it for a while.
Ratings for the show seem to indicate that fans are mostly pleased with these new developments as well – as we said above, the popularity of the production had started to go downhill a bit lately, but now it’s returned to a good state.
With the right kinds of changes, we might see this show becoming even more popular in the future. It certainly has the potential to land in a good spot on modern television – no pun intended – as it gets some parts of its plot very right.
The overall style of “Modern Family” is just original and interesting enough, and it does things that no other show has managed to bring to the screen before. Because of this, the producers of the show would be smart to keep exploring their more unusual plot ideas in the future as well, as they definitely have a lot of potential for making something even greater with this production.
