Minecraft is a game that features a lot of blocks. It’s an entire world that is built of nothing but blocks. The ground, trees along with your character avatar are made up of blocks. In order to progress in the game, you need to scavenge and mine blocks of various materials like that of stone, lava, and wood among others. You need to use all of them in your creations. You can further combine them in order to create new recipes that help in the manufacture of advanced tools and objects.
Developer Mojang revealed that yesterday around a million people all over the world were playing Minecraft at the same time. Nathan Adams, a Mojang developer, revealed on Twitter that now they have the capability to see how many people are playing Minecraft at the same time.
To his excitement, the figures were rather staggering! He declared, “There are currently over 998,000 people playing Minecraft at the moment. It is not close to being at its peak. I could have waited 5 minutes to declare a million, but nobody would believe me!”
According to Adams, the present figure counts the Minecraft players on PC, Linux and Mac systems with a version 1.3 or higher, for the online gamers. He indicated that the numbers would have been higher if he counted the offline players as well.
These would include the players with older versions, who did not purchase the game legitimately. Steam’s world famous game, Dota 2 is yet to have a concurrent 1 million players and according to Steam Charts, Minecraft has already beaten them, in consistently being the world’s most popular game.
Another Mojang Developer, Johan Bernhardsson, declared that the mobile version of Minecraft has already sold around 30 million copies till date. For added excitement, developers Telltale Games and Mojang announced a whole new episodic-category series based on the game. It will launch for the PC and mobile consoles in 2015.
In the meantime, Minecraft seems to have certain effects on kids. Firstly, it builds a lot of creativity among the young generation. Minecraft provides the kids with a great form of creative freedom but at the same time, it’s easier on the pockets of modern parents.
Being one of the most strategy-based games pertaining to resource management, Minecraft teaches a lot of real-world skills. It is certainly a great way to influence your kid instead of presenting him an expensive iPad.
A great thing about Minecraft is that it works everywhere like computers, smartphones, tablets and handheld video game consoles.
Minecraft is a kid-friendly game and is fun for the whole family. The only bad thing about Minecraft is addiction, and you certainly don’t want your kids to go that way, do you?
Stay tuned for more updates on Minecraft!
