Presently, one of the biggest titles in the world had a great Christmas. According to ‘App Annie’, Minecraft: Pocket Edition was the top-grossing app for all iOS devices, on one of the biggest days of the year for mobile gaming. Microsoft owned Developer Mojang seems to have made a lot of money on Christmas from its block-building adventures rather than Clash of Clans, Candy Crush Saga or Game of War, designed for its respective studios.
It is highly noteworthy because Minecraft costs a mere $7 to purchase, and various ‘premium-priced’ games earn far less than the FTP titles released for modern smartphones. Christmas is surely a huge day for all app developers. The various tablets, phablets, and smartphones are excellent Holiday gifts, and many people spend Dec.25 installing apps and other games for their brand-new devices.
To smartphone app developers, 25th December is to be compared to what Black Friday is for the console gaming world. The success of Minecraft isn’t surprising at all as it continues to be one of the most popular games among teenagers and children all around the world. After getting their kid an iOS device, it is most likely that their parents will end up purchasing this Lego-like game for their kids, during the holidays.
Furthermore, many people are also given gift cards during this Holiday season, and they ended up picking Minecraft for it anyway. However, Minecraft’s success remains a mystery. Mojang first released it as an unfinished game back in 2009 and then it was later released for the PC in 2011. In the same year, the studio also released a Pocket Edition designed for the Android and iOS gamers.
Mojang has also released the same title for Xbox One, PS3, PS4 and the PlayStation Vita. Even in those systems, it remains as one of the best-selling games. In September, Microsoft spent a whopping $2.5 billion to acquire Mojang and Minecraft. The publisher declared that it would continue to develop titles for the non-Microsoft platforms as well.
The console versions of Minecraft have been recently updated. The updates arrived on the Xbox One and 360 first, and the PlayStation players have been waiting for theirs. However, the testing of their latest update for the PlayStation 3 and PS Vita is now complete, and they are currently available.
However, according to the latest tweets from the developers, no news was provided from Sony America regarding the PS4 update. You can find the latest list of changes and new content included for these two consoles. However, the biggest new feature introduced is the addition of horse mobs and also the ability to tame and ride the amazing creatures.
