The “Wrecking Ball” singer admitted her mistake and explained that she was too stoned while singing the classic.
For a while, some critics thought that she was referring to being awed by having to do the performance before a comedy legend, 66-year-old Bill Murray, whom she also had the opportunity to work with in “A Very Murray Christmas” shown in Netflix not too long ago.
But apparently, Miley meant it for what it was. She was into weed when she said that she smoked too much that she forgot a lyric of “My Way.”
Murray was quick to comfort Miley with an impromptu joke as he yelled from the audience by saying that this is happening right now in Washington, D.C., the 51st state in the union.
But Bill wasn’t fussed and reportedly cheered on as he jumped out of his seat. Apparently, he even had the band prepare for round two later in the night and Miley performed the tune again without a hitch.
Bill Murray was awarded the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor at the celebrity-filled event at the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. on October 24.
The show also featured many of Bill Murray’s former co-stars who sang praises for him including veteran actors Sigourney Weaver and Steve Martin.
