Former boxing heavyweight champion Mike Tyson said that the scientific boxing style of Floyd Mayweather Jr. may not be enough to hold off the aggressive approach of Manny Pacquiao. So his advice to his fellow American boxer is that he should fight aggressively if he wants to win convincingly over the Pacman.
Tyson said that if Mayweather would care to look at the fighters to whom Pacquiao lost during his career, it is to those boxers who are prolific punchers.
Iron Mike said that Mayweather does not throw many punches during every round of his fight because the pound-for-pound king is being very scientific and really plots a lot. He also sits around and poses a lot, cites Tyson.
He added that Floyd Jr. cannot afford to use the same strategy with Pacquiao because his plotting skill would simply not work and may actually backfire on him. Tyson cited that Mayweather really needs to fight in the first couple of rounds because Pacquiao moves a lot, reports SuperSport.
Cannot afford to be conservative
Mike Tyson explained that Mayweather cannot afford to be conservative in his boxing strategy for Pacquiao.
The former heavyweight champ made his advice to Mayweather in a video that was posted in YouTube this week. Tyson was quoted as saying in the video that Money has to really fight because if he is not going to score or punch a lot, he is bound to lose the round.
Iron Mike also added that if Mayweather is going to be laid back in his boxing approach in his fight with the Pacman, he is also going to lose the round.
Tyson said that Floyd needs to throw more than 100 punches in every round during his fight with Pacquiao and not be content on throwing below 100 punches like he normally does.
Without him really saying it, Tyson’s statements actually gave the edge to Pacquiao over Mayweather because he did not say anything about the Pacman.
Holyfield has another take
Mike Tyson is the latest prominent boxing figure to give an opinion on what to expect during the showdown between Mayweather and Pacquaio when they unify the welterweight titles for the WBC, WBA and WBO during their May 2 mega-fight at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Evander Holyfield, who was also a former boxing heavyweight champion, said that he will be at the ringside to watch the unification bout at the MGM Grand.
The four-time boxing heavyweight champion said that he does not know who is going to win between Mayweather and Pacquiao and that is precisely the reason why he is going to see the fight live. He said that he is even willing to pay to see the fight because that’s how great it is going to be.
Holyfield explained that the contrasting fighting styles of both fighters make the fight really hard to predict. He said that the only way Pacquiao can win is if he corners Mayweather but he doubts if the Pacman can do that during the bout and that’s what makes the fight very interesting.
