Microsoft Surface Pro 5 Rumored to Run on Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 Processor to Turn it Into the Ultimate Mobile Computer

Processor manufacturer Qualcomm has officially released the Snapdragon 821 in August this year, which is basically an overclocked version of the Snapdragon 820.

There has been no other report of a newer version of the high-end processor from Qualcomm since then.

So when reports started coming out that the upcoming Microsoft Surface Pro 5 will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor, techno-critics started raising their eyebrows, especially with rumors saying that the device would possibly come out in the first quarter of next year.

Thus far, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor specification is the highest that the technological rumors could go. A few months ago, there were speculations saying that the upcoming flagship smartphone of the Korean tech giant, the Samsung Galaxy S8, shall reportedly feature a Qualcomm Snapdragon 830 processor.

Since Qualcomm has yet to come out with an official statement about its latest high-end processor, all these information are mere speculations and should be taken with a fine grain of salt.

The ultimate mobile computer

However, assuming that the rumors about the Microsoft Surface Pro 5 are true and the device shall indeed sport a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor, the same chipset shall reportedly turn the combination laptop and tablet into the ultimate mobile computer, reports Learn Bonds.

Apparently, there have been recent reports saying that the Redmondian company plans to enable the full Windows 10 operating system and all of its legacy apps to run on ARM-based processors.

ARM-based processors offer a different set of benefits including better power efficiency and integrated cellular connectivity compared to the x86 Intel chips that Windows laptop typically uses.

Prior to the rumors about the Microsoft Surface Pro 5 using a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor, there were reports saying that the combinational laptop and tablet shall be using the Intel Kaby Lake processor, which uses less power and improves performance.

Gearing up to launch 3 devices next year

Latest reports have it that Microsoft is now gearing up for the launch of three new devices next year, with the Microsoft Surface Pro 5 as the first to possibly roll out, notes Mobile & Apps.

Based on previous leaks, the Microsoft Surface Pro 5 is rumored to come out with a 512GB storage space and run on Windows 10 Redstone 2 operating system.

The device shall also feature USB Type-C, Thunderbolt 3 Support, and come with a robust battery. It should be noted that the current Microsoft Surface Pro 4 already ships with a mammoth 1TB of storage, coupled with 16GB of RAM so the minimum expectations from Microsoft Surface Pro 5 would be to match the specs of its predecessor device.

There were previous rumors saying that the Microsoft Surface Pro 5 will come out on October 26. But as it turned out, what came out from the Microsoft event was an update to the Windows 10 and a hybrid Surface Book officially called as Surface Book i7.

Subsequently, reports started coming out that Microsoft will be unveiling the Surface Pro 5 next year instead, possibly along with the Surface Book 2.

Of late, however, new rumors started coming out saying that Microsoft Surface Pro 5 could come out next year with two main variants.

Techno-geeks assumed that the two variants of the combination laptop-tablet line could differ in terms of what’s under the hood but it turns out, it would be different in terms of what would be its operating system.

Microsoft Surface Pro 5

Accordingly, the Microsoft Surface Pro 5 would come out with one version that is Windows-based, the way its predecessors came out, and the other one would run on Android OS.

But many critics believe that the Android OS is a misdirect or an inaccurate rumor because Microsoft would not be using a product of Google for its device in much the same way as Apple is very protective of its iOS software’s exclusivity to iOS devices.
