It has been previously reported that the Microsoft Surface Pro 4 will be launched towards the end of this month along with the Windows 10.
Many were saying that when the laptop-tablet combo from the Redmonian company hits the retail markets, it will already come out of the box with the latest Microsoft operating system for desktop and mobile devices.
However, it seems that there is a major modification on the device that Microsoft has decided to push the launching of the Surface Pro 4 to the second half of next year.
Although Microsoft has yet to confirm the delay in the release of its laptop-tablet, latest reports are saying that the change in plan regarding the launch of the Surface Pro 4 has something to do with the decision of the company to use a Samsung technology for the device.
Accordingly, Microsoft has signed a deal with Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. for the supply of solid state drives or SSDs to be used on the upcoming Surface Pro 4, reports Gazette Review.
The agreement between Microsoft and Samsung involves the delivery of 20 million units of 256 GB SSDs to Microsoft in the second half of next year for the American tech company’s laptop lines. It is not clear whether the order is meant only for the Surface Pro 4 or some other laptop lines of Microsoft.
SSDs are built using Samsung’s non-volatile memory express (NVMe), a game-changing technology that is capable of transferring data at 2GB per second. The specification is a huge improvement from the Surface Pro 3’s 600 MB per second transfer rate.
Negative impact
In addition to causing major disappointment to fans, who are already excited for the Microsoft Surface Pro 4, the delay in the launching of the device has reportedly prompted the company to let go of a number of people in its workforce.
There is also a possibility, as cited by WinBeta, that Microsoft may have decided against launching the Surface Pro 4 this year because the Surface Pro 3 is still doing well in the market, in terms of sales.
Releasing the Surface Pro 4 anytime soon will certainly take the sting out of the Surface Pro 3 and will likely cause a significant drop in its sales in the markets.
While there is still no announcement or word from Microsoft regarding the delay in the release of the Surface Pro 4, the device also has its upsides if it is launched towards the end of this month. The laptop-tablet combo will certainly bolster Windows 10 as it will project a high-end piece of hardware containing the latest operating software right in the world’s biggest stage – the internet.
Last iteration
Previous reports say that it is possible that Microsoft might eventually drop its Surface line consistent with the decision of the new company boss to adopt the ‘One Microsoft’ approach.
Satya Nadella recently took over the leadership of the American software and technology company as its new CEO from Steve Balmer. The new CEO specifically wrote a letter addressed to Microsoft employees detailing his plans for the fiscal year 2016.
Nadella mentioned that the company has to innovate in new areas, execute against its own plans, and make some tough choices in areas where things are not working, and solving difficult problems in ways that drive customer values.
While the new Microsoft CEO did not exactly say or explicitly stated that the company is discontinuing its Surface line, the fact remains that it is one of the two product areas that is not doing good for Microsoft, with the other being the Windows Phone.
Nadella said that the company has to make tough choices which somehow hint that it may eventually discontinue the products that are not reaping good rewards for Microsoft.
