We still don’t know when the new notebook is supposed to come out, but Microsoft’s silence on the subject could actually be a positive sign, according to some.
That’s because the Surface Phone is rumored to come out in 2017, and if Microsoft really are aiming for a combined release, then they would probably hold the announcement of the notebook as well. It’s actually possible that they could reveal both devices at the same time, along with other entries in the Surface line.
It’s clear that Microsoft are paying much more attention to the mobile/portable market now, and desktops seem to have fallen into the background for the time being. This is definitely not a bad move for the company, as there is a lot of consumer interest in that area of the market at the moment, and Microsoft have somewhat abandoned it in recent years.
But at the same time, they have been taking certain actions that seem more counter-intuitive to that, such as the dissolution of Nokia’s old departments and the gradual shift away from the mobile market. There are rumors that Microsoft are about to become an active player in that field once again in 2017, and this would probably be an important move for the company. Many agree that it would be a bad idea for them to abandon their position in this market now.
