Microsoft has dodged a huge bullet that was called the Microsoft Surface. The original was a clunky, over-priced tablet that seemed more like a laptop. The original Surface cost the company a lot of money and years after releasing it to the public without much fanfare, Microsoft was still writing off the fire sale. Fast forward to the Surface Pro 4 and things are a little different. Microsoft figured out the formula and fans finally have something worth spend hard earned money on.
Now that the Microsoft Surface Pro 4 and the Microsoft Surface Book are on the market for a few months, it is time to start talking about where the company is going to be taking the tablet for the next release. The Microsoft Surface 5 has been rumored since the day the Microsoft Surface Pro 4 arrived and that is just commonplace for devices in the technology industry. Before now, Microsoft has been releasing a new version of the Surface tablet each year so speculation and rumors are based on that history.
Microsoft is not exactly the first name that comes to mind when thinking about the tablet market. Apple, of course, is on the top of the pile and even though Microsoft is doing better, it would be hard to put them even at second behind the popular technology company. Basically, Microsoft built a tablet that comes with a full version of Windows and that made it a more portable version of the desktop you use at work.
Being targeted at enterprise customers, the Surface tablet was not selling well and was in series need of an overhaul before it would hit the big time. Hardware has changed a little since the first one was released and that included the processor and the cover/keyboard accessories that are sold for it. The specs that have been rumored for the Microsoft Surface 5 look like a good upgrade from the previous model, but most of the attention is on the stylus. Microsoft was spotted applying for a stylus patent and online sources claim it will be rechargeable with a magnetic connection to the tablet.
All of these things sound great, but there is going to be some backlash if the stylus is the only upgrade from the Surface Pro 4. The Surface Pro 4 comes with a pen, but it does not charge and means you will be buying more batteries costing you more in the end. Creating a stylus pen that can charge via magnetic connection to the dock will save the consumer money, but the odds are slim that is all they are worried about since you do not have to use the stylus to navigate the device.
