Microsoft Owns Up to Last Year’s Undoing of Pushing Windows 10 on PC Users a Little Too Hard!

A top official of American tech giant Microsoft confirmed that the company has pushed Windows 10 to PC users worldwide a little too hard, which is admittedly one of the firm’s not-so-good moments for 2016.

Chris Capossela, Chief Marketing Officer of Microsoft, said that pushing Windows 10 a little too hard on people was one of his personal lowlight for 2016, reports The Sydney Morning Herald.

His sentiment was further confounded when Microsoft rolled out the infamous update for Windows 10 that did not cancel the update even when users tried to close the dialogue box.

Although most PC users have not had any particular beef with Windows 10, the same cannot be said for users on Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 who refused to upgrade.

As the deadline drew near for a free Windows 10 upgrade earlier last year, Microsoft’s campaign to users became increasingly aggressive.

Finding the right balance

Capossela said that they know that they want people to be running Windows 10 from a security perspective, but finding the right balance where they are not stepping over the line of being too aggressive is something they tried and for a lot of the year, he thinks the company got that right.

However, there was one particular moment where they know they went out of bounds, especially when the red X in the dialogue box which typically means the user canceled did not mean cancel.

Within a couple of hours of that hitting the world, with the listening systems they have, they knew that they have gone too far.

But then, it takes some time to roll out the update that changes that behavior. And those two weeks were pretty painful and clearly a lowlight for the company. Capossela said that they have learned a lot from the experience obviously.

Critics also felt vindicated in claiming that there was some sort of deception with the Windows 10 update.

Microsoft has found a way to sort of deceive users into thinking that they were dismissing the Windows 10 update when actually they’re just pushing it to the back of the screen, which was described as too deceptive.

They believe also that it is good that Microsoft owns up to its rather dramatic misstep as the Windows 10 update procedure was a huge mistake by Microsoft.

It managed to take something that should have been good, giving away a great software update to billions of users, and turning it into something bad. It takes real skill to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory like that, details BGR.

The Microsoft Windows 10 update may have lost a number of Microsoft patrons after a crucial move came about, no thanks to its developers.

Crossing the line

The world-renowned company may have crossed the line in its attempt to serve its consumers better, or so they thought.

Many PC users can recall that Windows 10 was released to the masses in July last year, with an upgrade offer for those who still utilize the Microsoft Windows 7 and  Windows 8 operating systems.

Given that times needed a little change, the Windows 10 update was allegedly pushed forward a little too far by Microsoft itself.

Capossela stated that the move to leave users cornered into the Windows 10 update resulted in a serious backlash against the company.

As many people may have opted to go for the update, there are those who chose to stay with their desired and most arguably familiar version, but Microsoft seemingly did not accept the stagnancy.

Capossela added that he knows they went too far with forcing the update to users and it took some time to rectify the situation.

He said that the company suffered greatly for the disappointing move, learning from the situation affront.
