Former F1 champion Michael Schumacher is still racing to recover from his difficult physical ordeal some two years and a half after his horrific skiing accident in the French Alps.
While news about his health condition remain scarce as the family decided to keep everything in private, Luca Di Montezemolo, former president of Ferrari, recently paid a visit to the German racer and revealed in a recent interview that he is seeing signs of improvement on Michael.
He said that he is pleased to know that Schumacher is now reacting but Montezemolo refused to disclose further details, perhaps on the request of the Schumacher family.
Montezemolo’s latest statement was actually a complete reversal from his statement in February this year after his visit to Schumacher when he said that things do not look good for the former F1 champion.
Last year, the reports about Schumi were that he was responding or communicating through his eyes but still can’t move. It is possible that the reaction that Montezemolo was saying is now more than his eye movements and may already include some parts of his body.
A good news to fans
Even without going into the specifics, that is still good news to fans of Michael Schumacher as they have been eagerly waiting for a health update from the car racer’s family or his long-time manager Sabine Kehm, details News Everyday.
It is also the first time after several months that someone of significance to Michael Schumacher has offered a comment on his health condition.
Montezemolo said that it is Michael Schumacher’s inner strength that will help him overcome his life’s biggest challenge. He said that he knows how strong Schumi is and believes that his determination to overcome and come out of the difficult situation will be very crucial in his recovery.
The former boss of Ferrari explained that he considers Schumacher not only as a friend but an important member of the Ferrari family. He says that it is difficult for him to separate Michael as a driver and as his good friend.
The road to recovery
Back in April 2014, some five months after his accident, news broke out that Michael Schumacher was showing moments of consciousness and was gradually withdrawn from the medically-induced coma.
Some three months later, Schumacher was finally moved from an intensive care unit to a rehabilitation ward.
Since then, Michael Schumacher has been continuing his extensive and costly medical rehabilitation at a custom-built and state-of-the-art suite in his Geneva home in Switzerland. He is reportedly getting round-the-clock care by 15 medical experts under the leadership of Professor Jean-Francois Payen, notes The Bitbag.
All the riches that Michael Schumacher have accumulated during his prolific career as the world’s greatest Formula One racer once are what his family seems to be using on him to ensure that he recovers from his physical dilemma.
According to reports, the legendary Formula One champion is recovering very slowly amid an extensive rehabilitation program in his home in Geneva, Switzerland.
With 15 medical experts attending to him every day and using advanced medical equipment built specifically for his treatment, medical analysts say that Michael’s rehabilitation is costing him and his family an astonishing £100,000 weekly or more than US$150,000.
Because of the high cost of his medical maintenance and recuperation, Schumacher’s wife Corinna has already sold the racers 34 million Euro jet or about US$37.2 million.
At a daily expense of $150,000, the $37.2 million is only good for 248 days or a little over eight months so it must be really tough for the family to sustain him just to make him well again.
She is reportedly planning to sell the family chalet in France for a yet undisclosed amount, the sale of which would help expand Michael Schumacher’s rehabilitation budget.
Almost two years and a half after his skiing accident in the French Alps in December 2013, Michael Schumacher is still battling his life’s biggest ordeal.
