Miami Heat to Make Do with the Rest of the Season Without Chris Bosh

At a 23-30 win-loss record in the current NBA season, the Miami Heat is currently holding on to the precarious 7th spot in the Eastern Conference as of February 21.

And it looks like the team will have to fight its remaining 29 games in the current season without prolific big man Chris Bosh after the 30-year-old forward has been diagnosed of having blood clots in his lungs, cites MSN News from an AP report.

Chris Bosh will no longer be able to play for the rest of the season as he has to undergo treatment for his life-threatening medical condition.

The good thing is that his condition was detected early after the All-Star forward complained of constant pain on the side and his back a few days ago.

Teammate Dwyane Wade and his wife Adrienne, asked Chris to have the paid checked by a medical professional and he relented. Good thing he did because if he played through the pain, there is a chance that the blood clot on his lungs could have killed him.

Miami Heat announced that Chris Bosh is now receiving good care under the guidance of team physicians and his prognosis thus far looks very promising.

Upbeat about full recovery

Miami Heat coach Erik Spoelstra is confident that Chris Bosh will fully recover from his medical condition in due time.

He said that more than the team’s chances in the upcoming NBA playoffs in April, the Miami Heat organization is actually more concerned with the health of Chris Bosh, citing that it is bigger than basketball.

Spoelstra and Wade both visited Chris Bosh in the hospital on February 21. As much as Chris and his wife Adrienne were surprised of the medical findings, they were both surprised too. The Miami Heat coach said that the news is quite tough on the couple because nobody knew how delicate Chris’ condition is but he is optimistic that the All-Star forward will rise to the challenge and survive his current ordeal.

Despite an injury-plagued season to most of its key players, the Miami Heat is still playoff bound although without Chris Bosh, the team would definitely find it difficult to even make it into the playoff; or if it did manage to make it, go deeper into it.

The recent addition of Goran Dragic and his brother to the team on the NBA trading deadline showed some positive signs to the team but the loss of Chris Bosh will really be felt for the remainder of the Miami Heat season.

A dangerous condition

Chris Bosh’ state is a serious medical condition. As an athlete, it was possible that the blood clots may have worked its way up from the legs or from some parts of the body to the lungs.

It was exactly the same reason that led to the death of former NBA star Jerome Kersey just a few days ago. He was only 52 and he showed no signs of trouble before that.

A good number of athletes have dealt with blood clots but eventually returned to their respective sport better than ever. But full recovery takes time and it starts with blood-thinning medication procedure and also takes some prescription medicines before they can go back to their previous sports activities.

Mirza Teletovic of the Brooklyn Nets was also diagnosed last month to have the same type of blood clots in his lungs which put him out for the remainder of the season. Cleveland Cavaliers Brazilian center Anderson Varejao also had the same condition which sidelined him for most of the 2012-13 NBA season. But now, he’s back in harness.
