Metal Gear Solid 5 Previewed in Additional Detail with more Gameplay Footage!

We’ve been getting more and more information about the new “Metal Gear Solid”, as two new gameplay videos have just been released showing off the game’s gameplay in detail. We got to see various elements of the new title, including the online component – or at least part of it, as the full multiplayer system will not be ready for the game’s launch.

More specifically, the videos take a look at the classic cardboard box “camouflage” that the player will be able to use, as well as the Fulton system, another staple of the franchise. It seems like both elements have been implemented in a lot of detail, and it’s clear that the game is taking full advantage of the modern hardware that it runs on. This has been a worry for some fans of the franchise, as it was rumored that the game might be made with slightly worse graphics in order to reach a wider audience with some peculiar details about its platform availability, but that doesn’t seem to be the case.

It’s already known that the game is coming out on last-gen consoles, including the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, but we don’t know if it will have any significant changes to its gameplay on older systems in order to accommodate their lower-end hardware, or if it will be the same game across all platforms. Obviously, fans have been hoping for the former, as the second scenario would mean that players on new consoles would have to suffer and endure a low-quality gameplay experience just so the others can play the game too.

Hideo Kojima has been discussing the title with his fans too, and it’s clear that he hasn’t lost touch with what makes this franchise special and what his fans are looking for. One thing that fans of “Metal Gear Solid” have always appreciated in the franchise is the attention to detail, and this game will be no exception. For example, the player will get bloody permanently when they get into fights – blood stains will remain on their character until they go wash off or run through some rain.

The injury system has apparently been developed quite extensively, featuring varying amounts of blood according to how injured the player gets, and best of all, it’s actually going to be noticeable in cutscenes as well. This is something that players tend to pay particular attention to in games in general, as it can always break the immersion very badly if the character transitions from one visual state to another before entering a cutscene.

A classic example of this is “Max Payne”, where the character would frequently find himself carrying a different weapon than what the player had been using just a few seconds ago, and considering that it’s a game supposed to be built around the concept of immersion very strongly, this obviously wasn’t taken very lightly by its fans. Although in the case of “Max Payne”, at least it was a minor detail in the context of an amazingly polished and well-done game.

Back on the topic of “Metal Gear Solid 5”, another revelation by Kojima was that the game will apparently focus very closely on the topic of revenge, portraying it in a brutal and vicious way, and giving players something to think about while they’re running through the game’s levels. This will be no light title with regards to its plot and emotional development, and players should prepare for something quite dramatic.
