The “Memento Mori” episode of “Penny Dreadful” has received adulations and surmountable bravado on its creator, John Logan. The episode came in swift changes and interesting scenarios that have put the characters and the storyline in an absolute limit.
The first scene to go back to was the thrilling confrontation between Dr. Frankenstein and Lily. According to TV, it was a one-act play but Lily’s complicated character stood out in a moving manner that The Creature just became a mere audience watching her go. Billie Piper, actress for Lily, was never really compared to the genius that is Eva Green but this scene has proved many wrong. Piper can make out these intense emotions that people did not really expect of her.
What is even more interesting in this episode was that it was made with zero features for Green. Nonetheless, it was a superb episode that started with Lily’s seemingly disgusting one-night stand with a chubby bar man. She was reflecting as she groped his torso. But then again, the man is already dead. Lily has been inclined to necrophilia. She even kissed his eyeball before leaving.
Victor was just a vision of tragedy with Lily gone. Fortunately, The Creature came by to wake him up from his junkiness. It is not that The Creature cares for him but it just angers The Creature to know Lily was specifically created for him.
Ferdinand caught in stand-off
Then, Madame Kali showed up in the episode with a sexy oil rub from her daughters as Ferdinand had deep tissue massage from the men. Then, they started having an argument because Madame Kali did not really like the fact that Ferdinand went too deep with his undercover with Sir Malcolm but still not being able to provide her any useful information about the old bones she has been obsessing about.
To put Ferdinand’s loyalty to her, she threatened the man by saying she will stab him in the neck with her accessories and painting the room with his blood. And, in a twisted kind of way, she began kissing him. As he left, she spat on the floor making it known to Ferdinand that she did not enjoy any minute of that moment.
After that, Ferdinand was greeted by Hecate who is so eager to get her mother thrown out. She asked Ferdinand whose side he would be on but he did not have much choice. He was galloping in between these manipulative witches.
Malcolm on the trenches
This is definitely Malcolm’s memento mori. He has been in agony after leaving his son’s body in Africa. Then he just shot his daughter with a one-liner. He also tried to reform back his wife then got back to an affair after he got rejected. Most importantly, he remained to be in relationship with Vanessa.
