Megyn Kelly To Leave Fox News To Join NBC, The Murdochs Aren’t Happy. Will Days Of Our Lives Be Canceled To Accommodate Kelly’s Talk Show?

Megyn Kelly shocked everyone with her decision to leave Fox News to join NBC. She was one of the most popular on-air personality. She had made quite a name for herself in the field of TV hosting and reporting.

Christian Today reported that Megyn Fox decided to shift to NBC after the network offered her three outings in the network, one of them a good slot in the daytime, preferably a talk show.

People Magazine came up with interesting information that suggests Megyn Kelly’s daytime outing with NBC will most probably clash with the slot of Days of Our Lives. This would be the right time to inform that Days of Our Lives might get canceled this year and Megyn Kelly’s show would fill in the slot.

Days of Our Lives has been on the air since November 1965 and was running almost every day from then. With the news of Megyn Kelly becoming a part of NBC, fans are worried that the network might consider canceling Days of Our Lives to make a place for her daytime talk show.

Days of Our Lives is renewed every year since its first airing and fans feel that NBC might not renew it for the current year. Kelly is a famous face and NBC is aware that Days of Our Lives’ slot of 1-2pm on weekdays is a prime slot for daytime shows and the network would benefit more with Megyn Kelly gracing the screen.

If NBC does decide to cancel Days of Our Lives, it wouldn’t be the first time that a network has gone ahead to cancel long-running television shows. ABC has also gone ahead to cancel One Life to Love and All My Children to make a place for new talk shows like The Revolution and The Chew, respectively.

Blasting News offers some solace to the fans. The tabloid announced that NBC might not cancel Days of Our Lives. It is one of the most popular shows on the network and has had a long running time. They know there is viewership for the show and in such a situation might renew the show for the year, but only for a different time-slot. The dedicated viewers wouldn’t mind tuning in to watch their favorite show at a different time.

The 12 pm to 12:30 pm slot is open for NBC as they play infomercials during this period. They can quickly make a place for Days of Our Lives at that time without shifting around the time slots for the other soap operas in the network.

A fascinating poll was carried out after Megyn Kelly’s decision to move to NBC. The Washington Times said that majority of her Republic fans would not support her decision to go to NBC. Laura Nichols, who is the analyst for Morning Consult said that the Republican and Trump supporters aren’t going to follow Megyn Kelly to her new place in NBC.

Megyn Kelly To Leave Fox

In turn, she will have almost 36% of the Democrats tuning to NBC News to follow her. The share of the Republican viewers will be around 29% only. Experts believe that the numbers are expected to rise and drop to a greater extent in the coming months.

Megyn Kelly’s move to NBC is receiving mixed reviews from media gurus and marketing experts. They feel that Megyn Kelly might have to contend with popular anchors in the new network. She is up against Matt Lauer, Lester Holt, who enjoy a greater popularity than her. Kelly will also have Savannah Guthrie, Tamron Hall and Chuck Todd fighting it out with her in NBC News.

  1. It would be foolish of NBC to cancel Days of our Lives. 18 years ago, NBC pulled the plug on its other long-running soap, Another World. Since then, NBC had two other soaps, Passions and Sunset Beach, which didn’t have the longevity of AW and Days. It wasn’t very long ago that ABC canceled All My Children and One Life to Live, and CBS canceled Guiding Light and As the World Turns. We’ve seen many daytime soaps come and go over the years, including Capitol, Dark Shadows, The Edge of Night, Loving/The City, Santa Barbara, and Search for Tomorrow, just to name a few. Some of the shows that had short runs had potential to be long-running shows, and some of the shows that had long runs could’ve went on to have longer runs.

Another viable alternative for the soaps could’ve been returning them back to half-hour, in hopes of keeping them on the air, and saving money. We’ve got more than enough talk shows, game shows, courtroom shows, and tabloid-gossip and viral video shows on the air. Soap fans, including myself, would rather have stories than more cheaper fanfare. A better idea for NBC, IMO, would be to return Today back to its original 2-hour format. Megyn Kelly replacing the 3rd hour. Kathie Lee and Hoda remain at 10AM under newly revived Later Today name. Days of our Lives get a multi-year renewal. #saveoursoaps
