In the meantime, those who want to get prepared for the sequel should definitely revisit the original, especially if they’ve never seen it. It may be an old movie at this point, but it’s hard to argue its value and the quality of work that has gone into it.
Some films just manage to age well and end up successful for many decades after their original run, and while “Mary Poppins” had some quirks that became more obvious with each new year added to its age, the film still holds up pretty well by most standards.
Of course, younger viewers might not find it that interesting, and we suspect that Disney are actually going to make some changes to the style of the film, compared to the original, in order to make it more attractive to a wider audience.
But as long as they keep the core concepts intact, we expect this to be a very successful production that will enjoy quite a lot of attention from film fans. Disney have chosen the right name to revive from all the possible options they had in front of them, and this is probably going to pay off nicely in the long run. Hopefully they are going to give the film all the attention it needs though, instead of relying on the past fame of the original in order to succeed. But then again, that wouldn’t really be in Disney’s style.
