Disney have been moving in some interesting directions lately, and they’ve apparently dug deep into their vaults to pull out a beloved classic and breathe some fresh life into it. It’s been over half a century since the original “Mary Poppins” came out, and now the iconic classic is getting a sequel.
One of the most recent reports about the film was about its cast, and it looks like Disney are preparing quite the treat for their fans, as they’re planning to put together a very interesting roster of actors. While the names on the list sound good by themselves, we’re particularly excited to see the kind of chemistry that can develop between some.
Among the names that have been announced so far, Meryl Streep immediately catches the eye, although we don’t know who she will be portraying exactly as of yet. There are some theories among the community, but of course we don’t expect that Disney will give up the secret that easily.
There are even suggestions that Streep may not actually have a major role in the new film, and she’s just included in the casting list as a “red herring”, in order to distract fans from someone more important. Emily Blunt could play the role of Mary Poppins if reports turn out to be correct, but that doesn’t seem to be the big piece that everyone is missing.
Ben Wishaw is another name that might draw some attention to the film, and he will play the role of Michael Banks. Not much is known about how he will portray the character, although it’s probably not hard to make some specific guesses, knowing the actor’s most recent roles. In any case, it definitely sounds like a good idea to bring him on, considering the theme of “Mary Poppins” as a whole.
Other than that, not much is known about the film yet, and Disney are keeping their fans in the dark to a large extent. Anyone who’s been following the studio’s work in the past shouldn’t be surprised by this, as secrecy is one of the main features of their work style. In the end, this is why their fans are always so surprised by the quality of their productions.
There is a lot of time to go before “Mary Poppins Returns” arrives, so those who are eager to see the new film should prepare for a long wait. The release date is scheduled for December 25, 2018, so we don’t expect to hear much on the official front during the rest of this year.
In fact, 2017 might turn out to be a little uneventful for those waiting for information too, as Disney like to wait until the final stages of their work before they start revealing their progress. With that in mind, it might take until 2018 before the studio actually starts addressing their fans and sharing some details from behind the scenes. That is, unless someone leaks something first.

The producers should be careful with the people they let on the set, although Disney are one of the studios that are more familiar with the concept of protecting their work.
