The last episode of Supernatural Season 12 showed the Winchesters have a mini family reunion. The episode is titled ‘Celebrating The Life of Asa Fox, ’ and it deals with the life of Asa Fox, a boy that Mary Winchester (Samantha Smith) had saved from a werewolf in 1980.
According to News Everyday, Dean (Jensen Ackles) and Sam (Jared Padalecki) visit Sheriff Jody Mills (Kim Rhodes), and while they talk about supernatural stories, they end up mentioning the story of Asa Fox. The Winchester brothers realize that Jody knows about Asa Fox and is, in fact, heading to his funeral in Canada.
The Winchester brothers decide to head to the funeral along with Jody, and upon reaching, they realize that is a reunion of sort for the demon hunters, who have all gathered for the solemn occasion.
The Winchesters are well known in the community since they have died more than once and have lived to tell the tale. Mary Winchester makes an appearance at the funeral as well, and while they all get talking, Jody reveals that she dated Asa Fox before he died. Jody soon leaves the scene, and the brothers enter into an argument with their mother.
Mary Winchester has been adamant about wanting to be on her own, which her two sons don’t approve. Before they can reach a stalemate, the funeral is interrupted by a Crossroads Demon who possesses and kills several of the hunters present at the gathering.
The episode proceeds to depict Asa Fox’s life as a hunter and a hint at the incidents leading up to his death. In the end, the gathering ends with the demon forcing Bucky to spill the beans that it was he who was responsible for Asa Fox’s death.
The viewers realize that Asa didn’t waste his life as a hunter, as his mother Lorraine had presumed. She grudgingly approved of his life as a demon hunter since it cost him the chance of a regular family life. However, at the end, he realizes that Asa had fathered two twin boys and Lorraine gained two grandchildren even after she lost her son.
With Mary planning on spending some time on her own, she gets an offer to go back to heaven by the Grim Reaper. It looks like she will soon depart from the show since she tells Sam that she doesn’t feel like a part of the world. The way Asa’s life had shaped up, had an impact on her. Mary realizes that she got the chance to come back so that she could spend time with her boys and now that she has got the opportunity, she is better prepared to head back.
Rumors suggest that Dean might have had something to do with Mary’s decision to go back. She talks about her decision to head back with Sam. According to Mobile N Apps Dean might have made Mary accept the offer of Grim the Ripper in an attempt to save Sam, Jody, and the rest at the funeral.
The viewers are waiting to find out what will happen next. If Mary does go back because of Dean’s deal, then the viewers will realize that the Winchester family is more twisted than they had expected and if not, then the viewers might get to see her in action until she dies while hunting.
