Marvel Finally Snares Spider-Man into its Cinematic Universe; Puts the Lid on ‘The Amazing Spider Man 3’!

Contrary to earlier reports that Sony Pictures is already working on “The Amazing Spider-Man 3” movie starring Andrew Garfield in the lead role again, it seems that it won’t be happening anymore.

“The Amazing Spider-Man 3” will no longer happen because Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios of Disney Films have finally come to terms for the web-slinging superhero to join the Marvel cinematic universe.

Sony and Marvel will be co-producing the next Spider-Man movie which already has a release date of July 28, 2017. Instead of continuing with Sony Pictures’ “The Amazing Spider-Man 3,” the deal actually involves a rebooted version of the wall-climbing superhero, reports the New York Daily News.

The news obviously excited fans all over the world as they will finally see Peter Parker joining the likes of Tony Starks and Steve Rogers in the Marvel cinematic universe, along with their respective alter egos of course, Spider-Man, Iron Man and Captain America.

It’s what the fans want

According to Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige, the deal with Sony Pictures has been a long time coming because it is something that Marvel and the fans have been looking forward to for years.

Under the deal, the new Spider-Man will first appear in a Marvel film and shall be within the realm of the Marvel cinematic universe. But Sony Pictures will maintain the rights to the standalone “Spider-Man” movie reboot.

Kevin Feige will be a co-producer of the flick along with Sony co-chair Amy Pascal, who is leaving her post after taking over the crippling hacking scandal that hit the company late last year. It is also agreed by both parties that Sony Pictures shall continue to finance, distribute, own and have final creative control of the Spider-Man films.

Marvel and Sony are still exploring opportunities to integrate the characters from the Marvel cinematic universe into future Spider-Man films.

There is also a big possibility that Spider-Man would now be included in the next two Avengers film – “Avengers: Infinity War Part 1” and “Avengers: Infinity War Part 2.”

Flagship superhero

It is obvious that Sony simply won’t let go of its superhero for a song. The franchise is one of its money makers in the past and will likely be in the future.

The “Spider-Man” movie franchise has grossed more than $4 billion at the box office to date. The only blip on its record was last year’s “The Amazing Spider-Man 2.”

The partnership with Sony is also a huge win for Marvel since Spider-Man is the flagship superhero of the company’s comics division. It just so happen that Sony got the license to Spider-Man first before Marvel put up its own studio.

But the rights to the X-Men movie franchise, which is also from Marvel comics, remains with 20th Century Fox.

In a joint statement by Sony and Marvel, they mentioned that Spider-Man has more than 50 years of history in Marvel’s world and with this deal, fans will be able to experience Spider-Man taking his rightful place among other Marvel superheroes.
