Mariah Carey admitted that she was mortified with her horrible and botched live New Year’s Eve performance but it would not stop her from future live gigs.
While the “My All” singer described her performance horrible, she is nonetheless thankful to have her true fans support her during tough times, reports CNN.
She said that her true fans have been so supportive of her so she is so appreciative of them and everybody in the media that came out to support her after the fact because it really was an incredible holiday season that turned into a horrible New Year’s Eve.
Carey also said that that particular blip on her career would not stop her from future live performances like the one she delivered on New Year’s Eve. She is set to embark on her “All the Hits” tour with the iconic Lionel Richie in March.
The “Touch My Body” singer said that the disaster performance during New Year’s Eve would not stop her from doing a live event but it will make her less trusting of using anyone outside of her own team, taking a swipe on the production team for the show.
Dick Clark would not have allowed it
Mariah Carey also thinks that had Dick Clark been alive, the audio mishap of her New Year’s Eve performance would not have happened.
Dick Clark is the founder of Dick Clark Productions, which has been the production team for most live events on TV including the New Year’s Eve show for ABC.
She said that Dick Clark was an incredible person and that she was lucky enough to work with him when she first started in the music business
She added that she is of the opinion that Dick Clark would not have let an artist go through that and he would have been as mortified as she was in real time.
Dick Clark Productions responded to Carey’s team on January 2, after a report suggested they purposely set her up to fail.
Dick Clark Productions has called the Carey camp’s claims absurd and said an internal investigation showed the company it had no involvement in the issues affecting Carey’s performance.
In a statement, Dick Clark Productions said that for Mariah Carey and her team to suggest that DCP, as a producer of music shows including the American Music Awards, Billboard Music Awards, New Year’s Rockin’ Eve and Academy of Country Music Awards, would ever intentionally compromise the success of any artist is defamatory, outrageous and frankly absurd.
Letting the ax fall
Reports also have it that Mariah Carey fired her long-time Creative Director, Anthony Burrell, following the performance. The report claims he had moved her backup singers off stage and that caused even more confusion for Carey.
When Carey took the stage for her three-song set she announced she was unable to hear anything coming from her earpiece.
A publicist for the singer claimed that there was a production issue, particularly, technical difficulties. Unfortunately, there was nothing she could do to continue with the performance given the circumstances.
A source close to Mariah Carey said that as for her singing along to a track, it was not uncommon for artists to sing to track during certain live performances.
Meanwhile, Marie Osmond of the famous Donnie and Marie brother-and-sister pair, came to Mariah Carey’s defense after her failed New Year’s Eve performance on ABC’s “Dick Clark’s Rockin’ New Year’s Eve.”
She said that people enjoy seeing people have problems, which is kind of sad, but it’s kind of where people are.
Marie Osmond also congratulated Mariah Carey for not walking offstage despite the horrible performance reportedly caused by an audio mishap.
Carey’s publicist blamed show producer Dick Clark Productions for not addressing technical difficulties before the performance, including a malfunctioning earpiece, reports Fox News.
