Margot Robbie Recalls Nearly Joining ‘Fantastic Four’ Reboot; Celebrates Wrap of ‘Suicide Squad’ Filming!

Sometimes you win some, sometimes you lose some. Those were Margot Robbie’s words when she said that playing Harley Quinn was not supposed to be her first superhero foray. The 25-year-old actress recently revealed that she was almost cast as Susan Storm a.k.a the Invisible Woman in Josh Trank’s “Fantastic Four” reboot.

According to Cinema Blend, the Australian actress along with “Girls” star Allison Williams, “The Grand Budapest Hotel” actress Saoirse Ronan, and “House of Cards” Kate Mara were up for the role of Sue Storm. In the end, Mara landed the role of the heroine originally played by Jessica Alba.

Apparently, Robbie opted to be part of the DC anti-hero Task Force X than a Marvel heroine and it looks like she dodged the bullet just right. Speaking to New York Daily News, the “Wolf of Wall Street” actress narrates that when she first read the script of the reboot, it really didn’t resonate with her. While she does admit that she hasn’t seen the original “Fantastic Four” movie, she adds that she had a great meeting with its director.

“Fantastic Four” debuted earlier this month and turned out to be a major blockbuster letdown. According to reports, the reboot is now one of the most poorly reviewed Marvel films in history. Despite negative reviews on the film, Fox is still determined to move forward with a sequel to “Fantastic Four.” Hopefully, the next film will try its hardest to redeem the whole reboot franchise.

With how the hype for “Suicide Squad” is shaping up, Robbie’s miss on the latest Marvel film adaptation was certainly a blessing in disguise. David Ayer’s “Suicide Squad” will hit theaters in August next year and the first footage was shown during this year’s San Diego ComicCon. Judging by the teaser, Robbie’s Quinn is bound to steal the show.

The upcoming movie based on the DC Comics has just wrapped up filming and is now entering its CG-intensive post-production stage. It boasts an ensemble cast with Will Smith’s Deathstroke and Jared Leto as The Joker leading the pack. Joining them are Robbie, Jai Courtney, who will portray Captain Boomerang, and Joel Kinnaman, who will play Rick Flagg. Cara Delevigne is set to appear as Enchantress and Viola Davis’ Amanda Waller joins the cast among others.

To celebrate the end of their shooting, Robbie along with her co-stars Delevigne and Courtney all got together to party the night away in Toronto, Canada where their film was mostly shot. The Daily Mail UK reports that the trio went on a bar hopping expedition along with other cast and crew to celebrate their hard work on the film.

The cast and crew were given a reminder of their time filming, all thanks to a tattoo created by Margot herself. Director David Ayer shared photos of the tattoo he prefers calling ‘ink Skwad’ on Instagram which all cast members now have on their arms.

Meanwhile, in an interview with Daily News, Robbie discusses the upcoming movie and says that what’s great about the film is that it all stars anti-heroes, gathered together for a mission, which is the common denominator of them all. Describing her character, she basically calls Harley nuts because she’s either going to kill you, laugh, or give you a hug.

The “Pan-Am” alum will be the first one to portray Harley Quinn, who is described as a homicidal maniac in her own right, on the big screen. Her character is the girlfriend and the frequent accomplice of The Joker.

Speaking of The Joker, a huge part of why “Suicide Squad” is one of the most anticipated films next year is because fans are looking forward to seeing Leto’s take on the iconic villain.
