After the success of “Man of Steel”, a sequel was pretty much inevitable. And while we have a confirmation that the film is in production behind the scenes, little has been revealed about it on the official front. As can be expected though, fans haven’t wasted any time to discuss what they want to see in the new film, and browsing through those conversations can be quite interesting.
One of the main topics on most people’s minds right now appears to be the identity of the new villain. We still have no idea who the new challenger will be, or even if there will be just one villain. It’s possible that the producers might decide to make the sequel even more explosive and action-filled than the original, and throwing some extra bad guys in the mix is always an easy way to do that.
Online publications are just as excited about the future of the film as its fans, it seems, and there is also a lot of buzz regarding the identity of the new villain there. One of the more popular suggestions that have been going around is Bizarro, a character that many expected to see in the first film.
In the end though, it turned out that Doomsday was destined to go up against Superman in that installment, leaving many fans hopeful that they’re still going to see Bizarro in an upcoming sequel. It’s important to remember that there is no indication that this could be the case so far though, and this is more wishful thinking from fans of the film more than anything else.
It’s also possible that the new villain could be someone we haven’t even seen until now. While there’s no denying that the Superman universe is full of interesting characters that could easily be pulled out into the spotlight and given a refreshing in “Man of Steel 2”, it’s also entirely possible that the producers could choose to go with someone new.
This could at least give them the opportunity to work with a blank drawing board in the beginning, shaping the new villain exactly the way they want him/her to be. Considering how things have been going in the film industry lately, and the interesting trends we’ve seen in some productions, we’re curious to see what the crew behind “Man of Steel 2” could do if they decided to go that way.
Fans should probably prepare for a long wait at this rate though, as it looks like the new film is going to be in production for quite a while. The release date hasn’t even been confirmed yet, and most predictions put it in the end of 2017 as the earliest possibility. Some don’t even expect to see the film in 2017, but it’s better to wait for an official statement instead of hinging on such predictions.
Other than the identity of the villain, the other big question on most people’s minds right now seems to be related to the consistency between the film(s) and the original comic books.
The producers did take some creative liberties with the first film, but it turned out fine in the end and most fans were pleased with how the transition to a screen format was handled. On the other hand, there are certain rumors that “Man of Steel 2” could push things even farther in that direction, creating a significant divide between the film and the original comic books that people remember.
