With Marvels coming up with Avengers, it wasn’t going to be long before DC Comics came up with a film reunion of their superheroes. Although talks about the 2015 Justice League release were doing the rounds, the news has fallen flat. DC Comic fans need not lose heart yet. There is good news waiting for them. There is an official word for a Man of Steel 2 film in 2016.
After Batman v Superman: Man of Steel earned more than $660 million worldwide, there was little chance of director Zack Snyder and screenwriter David Goyer not returning for Man of Steel 2. In Comic Con 2013, the duo announced a sequel called Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
The shooting and production process in on schedule, with an expected release date on 26th March, 2016. Warner Bros have been tight-lipped about the plot line for Man of Steel 2, but as the title suggests, the film might see Batman and Superman, fighting on the same side.
Man of Steel 2 will have Wonder Woman. Israeli beauty queen, Gal Gadot, who won the Miss Israel campaign and went on to participate in Miss Universe, will be portraying the demi-goddess. Initially, Thor: The Dark World star Jaimie Alexander was set to play a role. Later, Gal Gadot auditioned for it and bagged a three-film contract with Warner Bros.
She will star as Wonder Woman in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, the Justice League movie and a solo movie on the Wonder Woman. The actress beat Elodie Yung and Olga Kurylenko in her November audition, to play the role of Zeus’ daughter – Princess Diana of Themyscira.
The film will have Henry Cavill playing the role of Superman and Ben Affleck playing the role of Batman. The film will have a rather grim take, where Superman will see how his actions in the last film destroyed half of Metropolis. Man of Steel 2 will show people protesting against the existence of Superman. Batman’s costume has been taken directly from Frank Miller’s The Dark Knight Returns. The mood will subsequently be similar. The Caped Crusader will be seen as tired and weary in this film.
Warner Bros and DC Comics are not leaving any stones unturned to make this film a great success. The plot carries forward to the Justice League movie, and this will ensure that they can match up to the fanfare of Marvel’s Avengers.
The Snyder-Goyer duo has reworked the magic into the lives and universe of Batman and Superman yet again. It’s just a matter of time before we witness the spell.
