Talks about “Man of Steel 2” have started heating up online although it seems too far off at this time considering that British actor Henry Cavill, who plays the role of Clark Kent / Superman in the DC Expanded Universe (DCEU), is currently filming the two-part “Justice League” movie, the sequel to “Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice” shown in March this year.
There have been talks about who the main villain of Superman is going to be in “Man of Steel 2” and the consensus of the rumors has been fairly consistent in saying that it is going to be Brainiac.
Brainiac is one of Superman’s greatest villains, second only to Lex Luthor.
During the marketing for the DC superhero ensemble movie early this year, it included a mock website for Lex Corp, the company owned by Lex Luthor. The site detailed the launch of Lex/OS, which is a type of computer operating system that has gained a sentient conscience.
It is rumored that Brainiac may evolve to be the physical form of that sentient conscience the same way that Vision from the Marvel Cinematic Universe evolved from Jarvis, the computer system being used by Tony Stark.
But Brainiac in the DC comic books is quite different. He is a super-android who claims to be the most intelligent being in the universe.
The character is often tied with the Kryptonians and their history. In fact, in the original Superman comic books, Brainiac shrunk the Kryptonian city of Kandor and kept it in his spaceship as part of his collection.
In other words, Brainiac in the comic books is an alien being just like Superman is. But in the rumored plotline for the DCEU, Warner Bros appears intent on humanizing him to make the villain more palatable and grounded.
An alien supercomputer
Latest reports have it that Brainiac in “Man of Steel 2” is going to be an alien supercomputer who is on a mission to find the codex that contains the genetic information of the Kryptonians that was previously sent to earth.
He will be able to track the codex and he will find it to be in the hands of Supergirl. The alien being will attempt to retrieve the codex from Supergirl.
He shall then be creating a Superman clone named Bizarro with the use of the Kryptonian genetic codes that he already has and have the clone do the dirty work for him, details the University Herald.
The supposed plot obviously came from Superman comic books and it would be interesting to find out if Warner Bros would pick it up which critics find as very interesting movie material.
In fact, it is for such reason that the rumored official title of the movie shall be “Superman: Last Son of Krypton.”
However, all these remain as speculations pending the confirmation from Warner Bros or the production members of “Man of Steel 2.”
Other information about the film
There are also reports coming out saying that Geoff Johns and Zack Snyder will be writing the story for “Man of Steel 2” and that Zack Snyder is likely to direct the sequel to “Man of Steel” released in 2013.
The rumors are also saying that Lois Lane, played in the DC Expanded Universe by Amy Adams, shall have a very small role in “Man of Steel 2” since much of the focus would be on Superman, Brainiac, Supergirl, and Krypton.
When “Man of Steel” was released to worldwide theaters in June 2013, most fans of Superman thought it to be a darker reboot of the Superman film franchise.
The movie was actually the second reboot of the franchise, third if the lone stint of Brandon Routh is counted in the 2006 film, “Superman Returns.”
