‘Man of Steel 2’ Becomes Inevitable Because Predecessor Film Got More Positive Reviews than ‘Batman v Superman’ and ‘Suicide Squad’

When “Man of Steel” was released in 2013 and made $668 million at the box office, producer Warner Bros did not immediately consider having a sequel to it. But it was sure that the movie is to be the beginning of the DC Extended Universe (DCEU).

The second and third movies of the DCEU was shown in theaters this year with “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” in March and “Suicide Squad” in August.

“Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” earned $873 million at the box office while “Suicide Squad” posted results of $720 million. While both movies made a respectable showing, even huge to some producers, it should be noted that Warner Bros actually spent in the north of $250 million to produce both films.

The three DCEU films’ output thus far are a bit meager compared to the box office results of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which is already on its 14th film with the release this week of “Doctor Strange” on global theaters.

The top four highest grossing Marvel films have earned over $1 billion and the first two are the two “Avengers” movies. Warner Bros expects to do the same when “Justice League” hits theaters next year.

“Man of Steel 2” would not have been possible because of the earnings of the next two movies of DCEU but when the positive reviews started coming out, Warner Bros learned that “Man of Steel” got a 55% positive review rating as compared to the 27% of “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice,” and 26% of “Suicide Squad,” details the Cheat Sheet.

Thus, it has become imperative or inevitable that Warner Bros delve into “Man of Steel 2” and shortly confirmed that there is going to be one coming out in 2019.

A top priority for Warner Bros

Because it will be a continuation of the DCEU, most of the characters in “Man of Steel 2” will be those who have been introduced in both “Man of Steel” and “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.”

There are now reports saying that Warner Bros has given the film a top priority status and is reportedly now in active development.

Even Henry Cavill’s manager confirmed the film. Dany Garcia, whose company Garcia Industries recently acquired the Superman actor as one of its clients, was interviewed and she spoke about his recruitment, reports the Independent of UK.

She said that Henry plenty of things on his plate at the moment. She revealed that they have been in a five-month period of time where the British actor is said to be re-strategizing, acquiring property for his production company Promethean, he’s filming “Justice League” now, and he is also in development for the Superman standalone, referring to “Man of Steel 2.”

Soon to be a global force

Garcia added that Cavill is beginning to expand that world but it’s beautifully teed up. She also predicted that in a year or two from now, Henry Cavill is going to be a global force.

“Man of Steel 2” is set to hit theaters in 2019 but Warner Bros has not given an exact release date thus far. What is confirmed are the release dates of its upcoming films in the DCEU including “Wonder Woman” on June 2, 2017, “Justice League” on November 17, 2017, “The Flash” on March 16, 2018, and “Aquaman” on July 27, 2018.

In addition, there are also reports that Green Lantern shall also have a standalone movie and so is “Batman” with Ben Affleck in the lead role. There are also reports saying that “Justice League” could also be a two-part movie, which would make the second movie coming out in theaters one year later. Three are also reports of a possible sequel to “Suicide Squad.”

Talks about “Man of Steel 2” have started heating up online although it seems too far off at this time considering that British actor Henry Cavill, who plays the role of Clark Kent / Superman in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU), is currently filming “Justice League,” the sequel to “Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice” shown in March this year.
