After much speculation and so many rumors, it’s finally been confirmed – “Mafia 3” is on the way! The game has been rumored to be in development for a very long time, and even the voice actor for the original protagonist chimed in at one point to give his fans a hint that they should be expecting something “soon”, but then seemed to have retracted his words and he went quiet.
Now though, according to the official Twitter account of 2K UK, the game is going to get its official announcement trailer on August 5, at 1 PM BST. It seems like the studio has a lot planned for the announcement of the game and they’re going to use the strong hype that surrounds it to its full potential, and of course fans have been taking the opportunity to argue about the new title and discuss what it could include.
One thing has been pointed out as somewhat humorous in the announcement – it said that the game is about to be announced next week, when in fact that was an announcement in itself, as everyone now knows that the title is coming.
Will we see the major event at Gamescom? It seems somewhat likely, given the fact that the major gaming convention will be held next week too, but we don’t know if 2K will be making their presentation there, or if they will release a trailer for the game separately. They could definitely get a lot of extra hype for the game by reserving its announcement for Gamescom though, as a lot of people are expected to attend.
What are we going to see in the new game anyway? The most prominent rumors about its location have been talking about Louisiana as the most likely choice, something that would bring a sharp contrast to the game’s previous settings, and could change its theme significantly. The teaser that was shown also seemed to show four characters next to cars that looked like they were from the 60s or 70s period, which itself could be seen as an interesting hint about the game.
Is it going to have more than one protagonist? There was recently a casting call allegedly for this particular game, requesting three male characters from Louisiana to be depicted by actors. In the teaser, we saw three male characters and a female, which could be a hint that the game is not only going to get more protagonists, but one of them will be a woman too.
It’s worth noting that this is something that has been rumored for “GTA 6” for some time, ever since the fifth installment in that franchise came out with three separate protagonists. People have been expecting to see the idea continued in “GTA 6” and even possibly expanded with the addition of a female protagonist, or by adding a few extra characters to make it an even more interesting party. But at this point, “GTA 6” is just a rumor that’s still a long time away.
On the other hand, “Mafia 3” is now out of the rumor pond and it’s very much a real game, which is why its fans have been so excited online and have been discussing possible new developments for it very actively. It’s clear that a lot of people want to see “Mafia 3” and they are actually quite impatient about it, so hopefully the game is going to live up to those huge expectations.
