The fact that the game could only run at 30 FPS when it first came out actually turned out to be a much bigger issue than most probably expected. It’s been known for a long time that PC gamers care about the performance of their games, but it’s not until we get a major incident like this that the situation becomes truly clear.
Some even expected that the game as a whole would flop because of these problems, but thankfully that wasn’t the case in the end, and 2K were able to not only salvage the situation, but they even pushed “Mafia 3” forward to become their fastest earner.
Of course, the game also benefited from a more or less flawless release on consoles, unlike on the PC, so that’s another factor that added to the success of 2K in this situation, and allowed them to save the release.
But there’s no doubt that their willingness to resolve the issues that arose so quickly was the main reason why the studio was able to enjoy such strong success for “Mafia 3”. If they keep up their current game with some additional free updates in the future, we can definitely see the game staying at the tops of charts for a long, long time. And with all the effort that’s been thrown into it, it’s one of the titles that truly deserve this kind of success right now.
