The developers have reportedly put a lot of effort into gathering as much information as possible about the time period that the game takes place in, so we expect an authentic, immersive experience. Previous “Mafia” games were partly known for that, and we would expect nothing less from the sequel, especially after it’s been in development for that long.
Of course, the developers must have also taken some creative liberties here and there, especially in order to make the game feel more fun and engaging, but that’s to be expected. As long as the title actually makes the player feel like they are visiting those locations and interacting with the various rich characters in its world, that should be enough.
One of the details that struck the interest of many players from the initial previews is the fact that the game will reportedly put a lot of focus on integrating the on-screen action with the story adequately.
This is important, as the gameplay mechanics of a game like this will always be limited, and players must feel some connection to the story in order to get through the whole experience, as we’ve already seen in similar titles like “GTA”. We’ve also seen some failed experiments in the genre of open-world games, where there was too much focus on giving the player freedom of exploration, and not enough substance in the story to keep them attracted.
