Macaulay Culkin Reprises Role of Kevin McCallister in New Web Series Dryvrs, More Details

Exactly 25 years from the time he broke into the big screen as Kevin McCallister in the very successful Christmas movie “Home Alone” shown in 1990, Macaulay Culkin is reprising his role but no longer as a kid but a grown up man in a new web series called “Dryvrs.”

Macaulay takes on the role of Kevin as an Uber driver. In a 311-second video clip of episode 1 of “Dryvrs,” he portrayed McCallister as a scarily messed up man picking up an Uber passenger, notes the NZ Herald.

From a young boy left alone at home in Christmas and single-handedly fending off burglars, McCallister’s grown-up life appears to have taken a turn for the worse.

The web series “Dryvrs” is created by Jack Dishel and the clip of the first episode showed McCallister already married and driving an Uber. It seems however that he is a bit on the deranged side.

After picking up a passenger, who was played by Jack Dishel himself, McCallister recounted his horrific experience of being left alone as a child and the traumatic effects it has had on his life. The first episode is aptly titled “Just Me in the House by Myself,” details The Guardian.

In fact, the Uber passenger and McCallister even switched places as the latter focuses on telling his back story instead of driving.

But when a man tries to hijack his Uber car, McCallister resorts to his craftiness that he showed in “Home Alone” and “Home Alone 2.”

Not an internet guy

In a recent interview, Macaulay said that he does not do internet but if he does, he would strongly consider watching “Dryvrs.”

But it seems that Macaulay Culkin is not a series regular as reports have it that the upcoming episodes of “Dryvers” will feature and chronicle other strange Uber encounters between Dishel and his gonzo drivers, to be played by numerous special guest stars.

The first episode of “Dryvrs” featuring Culkin comes just a month after the 25th anniversary of the original release of “Home Alone.” It also marked the first TV appearance of Culkin after playing as himself in TV Land’s “The Jim Gaffigan Show” a few months ago.

Many may not be aware of it, but Macaulay returned to acting this year by playing as himself in the American sitcom “The Jim Gaffigan Show.”

“The Jim Gaffigan Show” stars comedian Jim Gaffigan and his wife Jeannie Gaffigan. Jim stars as a fictionalized version of himself as a stand-up comedian raising five children in a two-bedroom apartment in New York City.

Season 1 premiered on July 15 this year and its eleventh and finale episode was aired on September 23. The show was already renewed by TV Land for Season 2 next year.

But rather than appearing as a one-episode guest star, Macaulay Culkin has been popping up in a recurring cameo as a fictional version of himself in “The Jim Gaffigan Show,” much like its star Jim Gaffigan. Culkin also plays the role of a New York-based comedian and family man just like Jim.

Having a blast

A number of viewers have noted how the “Home Alone” star has surfaced periodically on the TV series in his own defiantly eccentric way and it seems like Culkin is having a blast after being away from acting for a long while.

Macaulay Culkin

Incidentally, Macaulay Culkin just turned 35 years old late in August. Some 25 years ago, he was the biggest child star of the 90s. He was a money-maker in the first two “Home Alone” movies. He also starred in “My Girl.”

However, his last three movies as a child actor – “Getting Even with Dad,” “The Pagemaster,” and “Richie Rich” – all bombed at the box-office, forcing him to retire from show business at the young age of 14.
