Luke Hemmings Says 5SOS Stage Performances are Inspired by Great Rock Bands

Heartthrob Luke Hemmings of the Australian pop rock band 5 Seconds of Summer (5SOS) says that their stage performances in their ongoing ‘Rock Out with Your Socks Out’ world concert tour are inspired by the great rock bands of the past.

He mentioned some of these great rock bands as Green Day, Guns N’ Roses, Poison, Bon Jovi and Blink-182. Luke said that growing up, he watched all those rock bands in their stage performances online through VH1 to see how they make huge impact on the audience, notes Perezhilton.

Luke said that he and his fellow bandmates, Ashton Irwin, Calum Hood, and Michael Clifford, take notes of some of the rock band’s stage act, particularly their lead singers like Axl Rose, Jon Bon Jovi, and Billie Joe and decided to put them on their own concerts too.

He said that much of the stage performances of 5SOS are patterned after Green Day because it is the group’s favorite band and would surely like to become their idols too someday. 5SOS believes that imitation after all, is still the sincerest form of flattery.

Luke said that they have their individual favorite rock bands but Green Day is their favorite as a group. He disclosed that they usually sit around the computer and watch much of Green Day’s performances online.

They are also impressed with how Billie Joe of Green Day can command 80,000 people by almost mesmerizing them into singing every word that he was singing on stage.

The 5SOS lead vocalist says that if their band can only have that kind of stage craft or even just a little bit of it, he will be very happy.

In terms of fan base, 5SOS definitely has the makings of a great rock band and the challenge to them is longevity or if they can grow beyond their pretty boy images and really become rock singers that they like to believe that they truly are.

Award for selling out venue

Members of the 5SOS each received an award from officials of the Wembley Arena in London on June 14 for their recent three sell-out shows in the venue.

Wembley Arena’s John Drury, General Manager, and Sharon Smith, Head of Operations, handed the individual awards to the members of the 5SOS including Luke Hemmings, Ashton Irwin, Calum Hood, and Michael Clifford at the backstage of Wembley Arena.

In a recent post on Twitter, Ashton Irwin expressed his and the 5SOS gratitude for the millions of fans who supported them in their recent UK-Europe tour which had only them and an airconditioner. He reiterated his appreciation for the fans that rocked with them during those times.
